Polk Hunt Supporters Boost State Campaign TRYON — Organizers of Governor Jim Hunt’s re-election campaign are off to a good start in their local effort to keep North Carolina moving forward. Harold Burrell, Polk County campaign chairman for Hunt’s campaign, says his organization has raised $600,000 for the fall election campaign. Burrell and Polk County campaign co-chair man Barry Miller presented the money to Governor Hunt at a western regional campaign rally in Asheville, Monday, July 21. “I think this shows that people here are enthusiastic about continuing the record of progress Jim Hunt has helped us build in Polk County”, Burrell said. “In the last three and a half years Governor Hunt has helped bring more than a billion dollars in new and expanded industry to the western part of the state. When those new plants open they will mean more than 24,500 new jobs for people in the area. “Governor Hunt has also given the travel and tourism industry the attention it deserves. Since he’s been in office the state’s travel advertising budget has trippled. He’s appointed his new Travel and Tourism Advisory Council to find ways to keep mountain travel and tourism growing. “The Governor has also been WANTED: Someone who can teach private German lessons from Aug 15 thru Sept. 15. 859-5782 adv. 25, 28, 29, pd. "We had a good show of support for Jim Hunt in Polk County during the primary”, Burrell said. I believe we’ll reach our fundraising goal early again for the fall campaign.” 4th Concert The Swannanoa Chamber Players will perform their fourth concert of the season at Blue Ridge Technical College Audi torium Thursday, July 31, at 8 p.m. The featured selection will be the famous “Trout” Quintet by Schubert, so named because its fourth movement is based on the Schubert song, "Die Forelle" (The Trout). This work is written for violin, viola, cello, string bass, and piano. The bass part will be played by Helen Carroll who will be a guest artist with the Swannanoa Chamber Players this week and next. Miss Carroll was, until recent ly, the principal string bass player of the Indianapolis Symphony. She resigned this position to raise a family. However she still finds time to play with chamber music groups. Also on the program will be Samuel Barber’s “Summer Music” for clarinet, flute, oboe, bassoon, and French horn and Vivaldi's “Trio Sonata” for lute and oboe. Tickets will be available at the door.
