It was a gala affair, complete with speakers, a fabulous luncheon, and high lighted by the Senior Citizens Rhythm Band who played a wide range of familiar easy listening and gospel tunes. The band members were wearing gray bonnets and matching pinstriped dresses, indicative of days gone by. ...To Be Sure Again... RE-ELECT Richard C. Erwin democrat to the N.c. STATE HOUSE The club was started by Mrs. Audrey Lowery, a TPP Home Health Aide. She said she saw the need for a club tha the elderly residents of Kimberly Park Terrace could “call their own.” The past year has been filled with activities for the city’s elders. Highlights include a Christmas Dinner and Programs, last December, a Valentine party in Februarv-, They have had tours of the R.J.Reynolds Whitaker Park cigarette manufacturing plant and of the Joseph Schliu Brewery, a Bicentennial Luncheon at Tanglewood Park, and the list keeps on going. u ..ihe necessary credentials. RichardC.^Ejwin In the course of doing her job, Mrs. Lowery’s idea caught on and on Oct. 21, 1975, 27 Kimberly Park Terrace members met to form the club. Mrs. Maggie De Jarnette of 1303 Oak Street was elected as the group’s first president. The group called itself the Happy Kimberly Park Senior Citizens Club because, accord ing to Mrs. Lowery, “The club members felt that the name should reflect their happiness and pride in being residents of Kimberly Park Terrace. The group now has about 54 members. Guest speakers for the affair' was Mr. Tommy Douthit, opening remarks were given by club President Mrs. Maggie De Jarnette and the club history was read by Mrs. Rosa Clardy. A beautiful s' was rendered by Mrs. I! Thompson. The speaker was introduced by Mrs. LoreneB.I Thomas and Mrs. Barbatal Ferguson gave the dosinkj remarks. It was a very ending/beginning for a group of people. Alumni Chapter Elects Officers The Winston-Salem Alumni Chapter of Johnson C. Smith University met recently to elect new officers for 1976-77. The new officers are; President - Mr. Frankie G. Barnes Vice President - Mrs. Betty J. Hanes Secretary - Mrs. Nicole S. Transou Asst. Secretary - Ms. Sandra V. Lawrence Treasurer - Mr. Thomas H. Hooper. The Winston-Salem Chap ter was selected by the General Alumni Association to send a person to represent “Miss. General Alumni the 1976 J.C.S.U. HomefiJ ing on November 13.
