Elynor A. Williams, director
of corporate affairs for the
Hanes Group, was the guest
speaker at the bi-weekly meeting
of the Minority Business League
at the league's seminar on
''Women in Business."
Williams is a member of the
board of trustees at the University
of North Carolina at
Greensboro, a director of the
YWCA of Forsyth County and a
member of the advisory council
for the Office of Women in
Economic Development, part of
the N.C. Department of Commerce.
Women make up more than 50
percent of the work force, the
speaker said, but there i? a great
disparity in pay between women
and men for the same jobs.

"Even though over 50 percent
of working people are women,
women still earn only 60 percent
of each dollar earned by men,"
Williams said. "Statistics indicate
that black women are still
on the lowest rung of the pay
scale."
The future, however, remains
bright for women, Williams said.
Many gains have been made. As
women increasingly move into
the main stream of business and
industry, their talents, skills and
perceptions of the work force will
make the working world more
responsive to their needs.
Williams challenged the
Minority Business League to
answer a call from Doris Cromartie,
assistant secretary for

The list will be used to compile a

Williams encouraged black
women to work with male partners
in business and learn as
much as they can about the
business so that, if the opportunity
presents itself, they can step in
and buy or operate the business.
Mrs. Sarah Hamlin brought to
the League advice and words of
