*' < Pffl* F\1ft.Th* Qhrnnl^lfi Thyr^ Chronicle Came Driving whi By ALBERT NICKERSON Chronicle Staff Writer The Chronicle polled residents about what punishment is fair for a person caught driving drunk. Lorraine Mays, custodian: The authorities should take his license, because he could kill somebody innocent. If they take his license, the person will think twice before doing it again. Billy Wesley, R.J. Reynolds: Some people caught for drunk driving aren't really drunk. The punishment is too stiff sometimes. A lot of people drive better drunk than sober. Habitual drunk drivers should be punished by the authorities' taking their license. Donald Mai ton Jr., processing technician: I would take their license for a while after the first offense. That's good enough they should be put in jail from six months to a year. Daisy Waiters, unemployed: I can't say. But they should be punished by having their license revoked, but not given a jail sentence. Aundra Hicks: You should be taken to jail. 1 don't think taking their license will help. The Rev. Dennis D. Daniels: _ People who drive drunk cause a lot of deaths. If you drink stay home, don't drive. Or, if you're out and drinking, let a friend drive. r r r-% ?? V /"S < %, ? 1 Lola Hass, UnbPnplS punishment should be as stiff as possible for someone who drinks and drives. They should spend some time in jail, possibly a month or so. George Britton, machine operator. It is hard to say. I feel something should be done about it, but I just don't know what to advise. So many people are being killed by drunk drivers. Possibly a jail term would help. They should serve 30 days in jail, but the Carmon named new president Clifton Carmon is the new president of the Twin City Chapter of the N.C./A&T State University Alumni Association.
