Dr. James B. Ewers, a native

to an announcement by Dr.
William H. Greene, piesident of
the college which is located in
Salisbury, N.C.
Dr. Ewers was an outstanding
scholar-athlete at Atkins High
School ' while growing up in
Winston-Salem and went on to
Johnson C. Smith University
where he earned a B. A. degree in
Education in 1970. In 1971 he
earned the Masters of Arts
Degree in education from
Catholic University in
Washington, D.C. and in 1980
earned the Doctor of Education
degree from the University of
Massachusetts/Amherst.
Prior to coming to Livingstone,
Dr. Ewers served as
Director of Admissions of

Dr. Ewers is an outstanding
athlete having won a record 34
consecutive tennis singles vie
tones while a student at j.^.
Smith. He was listed among
Outstanding College Athletes of
America and later served as Tennis
Coach at Maryland Eastern
Shore. Recently, he reached the
finals of the Garber/Lash 35 and
over Tennis Open but had to
withdraw due to the start of
Freshman orientation at Livingstone.
He is married to Dr. Beneta Vi
Ewers, a member of the faculty
of Barber Scotia College in Con- IX
cord. They are the parents of a
two-year old son.
