Local sorority plans cotillion The members of the Beta Alpha Chapter of Iota Phi Lamb da Sorority Inc. met recently with 20 debutantes and their mothers to finalize plans for the 33rd an nual debutante cotillion. The meeting was held at the Masonic Temple. The cotillion will be held at the M.C. Benton Convention Center on May 11. Mrs. Arrie Wright is the chair man of this year’s cotillion, with Mrs. Virginia Wright as the co- chairman. Mrs. Alice Carjer is the president of the sorority. Singers interested in taking part in this event should meet in the choir room of the Fine Arts Building at WSSU on Monday evenings at 7:30 p.m. for rehear sal. Interested persons should con tact Dr. James Kinchen at 761-2046 for additional informa tion. mdly Club holds its monthly meeting The Columbia Heights Friend- Club held its monthly meeting the Bethlehem Center. The lb’s president, Mrs. Kenneth IS, presided. Plans for the Easter brunch, to held at the home of Mrs. sworth Banner on Easter Mon- ay morning, were made. The following members were present: Edith Williams, Maggie Green, Verna Grier, Elsworth Banner, Mattie DeBerry, Katie Woods, Ida Davis, Lillie Lomax, Louise Davis, Ellen Campbell, Alma Cardwell and Vera Sadler. The hostesses for the meeting were Edith Williams and Maggie Green. The Society for the Study of Afro-American History in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County has been incorporated by the State of North Carolina. The organization started in 1981 as an ad hoc committee in terested in providing a yearly community project or program designed to create dialogue bet ween the different ethnic groups. In February 1981, the commit tee produced its first program at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. The program was called “Building a Community of Oneness.” Since then, the group has spon sored a cultural and educational program yearly in keeping with its original goal. Within the past year, the group has begun to develop a black history organization that is at tempting to develop a black history society, to locate, record and develop the history of blacks Community dub holds March meeting The 24 Vi and 25th streets Community Condolence Club met March 2 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Sawyer. Forte, financial secretary; Mrs. Catherine Carson, treasurer; Mrs. Janie Thomas, chaplain, and Mrs. Addie Knox, reporter.
