The winners were both members of the Winston-Salem King and Queen Duplicate Bridge Club (photo by James Parker). The Kings ,and Queens Duplicate Bridge Club of Winston-Salem held its annual Grade “A” Tournament Feb. 22-24 at the Hilton Hotel in Winston-Salem. Attendance for the tournament was the largest in the club’s nine years of sponsorship. Par ticipating players came from Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Durham, Charlotte, Kinston, Atlanta, Baltimore, Norfolk and New York. The opening event at 6:30 on Friday evening was named “The Andrew Wilkes Open Pairs Event” in honor of the founder of the Kings and Queens Duplicate Bridge Club. Due to Wilkes’ perseverance and guidance, the club was chartered as a member of the American Bridge Association in 1974. The Kings and Queens who placed in the overall tournament were as follows: • the Andrew Wilkes Open Pair, under 400 points, Katharine Meroney and Carolyn Matterson, Mc- Inez Adams and Reginald Cauley; • the Andrew Wilkes Open Pairs, under 400 points, Billie Matthews; • Scholarship Game, Elsworth Btuiner and Mary Andrews, Inez Adams and Reginald McCauley; • Early Birds, Inez Adams and Reginald McCauley; • Round Robin, Inez Adams and Reginald McCauley, Geraldine Cary and S.E.
