Photo by Charmane Delaverson Urban Arts to present-Jazz Sampler'89' through June ' P A series of jazz concerts fea ? turing such popular artists as : Chris Murreli appearing with the Matt Kendrick Unit, the Charlie > Culbreath Quartet and Eve Cor nelius and Chip Crawford will be - presented by Urban Arts of the -Arts Council Inc. Chris Murreli and the Matt : Kendrick Unit will open the series I at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, at* :the Arts Council Theater.. The ?f? group will perform modern ancU ^?mainstream jazz. "Jazz Sampler '89" showcases . the many styles of jazz which will ~;include swing, Dixieland, fusion, ' cool and contemporary. The jazz Chris Murrell Matt Kendrlck anthology concert will focus on the history of jazz and will include selections ranging from ragtime to jazz rock. Each concert will feature a brief lecture on jazz given by the performing group. Admission will be charged at some of the concerts to cover production costs. The series, made possible by a grant from the N.C. Arts Coun cttrwiirtake~piacein various loca _ tions throughout Forsyth County. The Career Center of the Wln ston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools ^ will celebrate National Vocational : Education Week from Feb. 12 to 18. The theme for the week is "Voca Hional Education -- Building Tomor row's Leaders. Special events will include an exhibit in Marketplace Mall, a student rally with tree planting, an apprecia tion luncheon and tour for advisory committee members and guests and staff. Efficient Club holds December banquet, January meeting The Efficient Club recently _ held its annual banquet of the year in December. The banquet was held at the Martin Luther King Recreation Center.
