The Chairmen of the Board members and their families will be special guests for the symphony's final dress rehearsal of "Verdi's Requiem," conducted by Peter Perret and featuring 200 voices of four com bined community choirs and 80 sym phony musicians. At 12:30 p.m., the chess chal lenge matches will begin. There will be one sudden-death round with eight boards and eight players per team. The best score will win the challenge. \ * The winners also will keep the Symphony Cup for entire year. The challenge was spearheaded by James Fowler, a symphony board member who also initiated a program at the Salvation Army Boys Club to introduce youngsters to the game of chess. Don Moore, the executive direc tor of the Boys Club, said that the chess challenge will provide more than a recreational activity for the boys in the chess club. "1 think it will be a unique cul tural opportunity for them to mingle with the symphony in dress rehearsal," Moore said. "Overall, I hope it will open up their cultural horizons. They will get to interact with the professional musicians in the symphony." Fowler began working with the Boy's Club chess club three years ago. Moore said Fowler expanded on the existing program and offered his expertise to teach the young boys the game of chess. "Jim wanted to teach chess to boys who ordinarily might not have gotten the opportunity to learn about chess," said Moore. J ?
