Open House at Boy's Club The Salvation Arms Boys Club on Martin Luther King Drive held Open House on March 1 2 The purpose of the event was to give parents and families an oppor tunity to socialize and participate in some of the activities that the mem bers enjoy on a daily basis. Tomiko Rice, social recreation director said, We want to involve our parents and family*- members in more of our programs and this would give us the opportunity to show them why the members love coming to the club." The evening started with mem bers showing their parents how to shoot pool, play table tennis, foos ball, and bumper pool, and refresh ments were served by Fave Jones. The basketball competition then begin. These events were open for competition between the parents and residents of the community. James Smith conducted a half court shot contest, a free-throw con test and:a three-pointer contest. The participants vsere: Mike Lampkins. Angela Washington. Shawn Spur geon. Arthur Green. Rhonda Cuth bertsm. Beverly Carter, Byron Ingram. Chery l Ingram. David Hair ston. Lonnie Blue. Mayola Dobson, and Wesley Champman. In the tree-throw competition Coach Arthur Green put the pres sure on by hitting four out of five shots, but this w as no threat to Chris Carter s mother. Beverly Carter, who also hit four out of five shots. The winfiers were as follows: Beverly Carter, first place; Arthur Green, second place; and Mayola Dobson. (mother of Michael Shane Dobson). third place. Rice was in the 3-point' shootout and Byron Ingram, the father of Joshua and Elmo was able to sink three out of five 3-pointers. David Hairson hit two out of five, Lonnie Blue, father of Dion Blue hit one out of five, Arthur Green also hit one out of five and the Boy's Club Director of Operations, Angela Washington, hit one out of five shots. The half-court winners were as follows: Dion Blue, first place; Mayola Dobson, second place; and David Hairson, third place. According to Joan Morris, Boy's Club Unit Director: "The entire evening was a success."
