Phi omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., pre sented three academic scholarship ; awards totaling $3,000 to local high school graduates this week. The awards were based on each applicant's cumulative grade-point average, SAT scores, rank in class and essay entitled "Academic Excellence in the 21st century. The winners were Christy Miller, daughter of Gladys Miller, who graduated from North Forsyth High School and attends N.C. A&T State University; Zuleika Aldridge, daughter of Herman and Shirley Aldridge, who is ^West Forsysth High School graduate and attends UNC-Chapel Hill; and Ramaine Cathey, daughter of Ram sey and Ida Cathey, who graduated from Carver High School and is enrolled at UNC-Chapel Hil. Other graduates commended for outstanding academics were Tiffani Myers of North Forsyth H.S., Maleika Wat kins and Yvette Talbert of Carver, H.S. and keyra' Faulkner of Glenn High School. Olivia Morgan, president of Phi Omega congratulated the stu dents for their achievements. Bron , nie Daniels, scholarship committee chairman, presented the awards at a*tea at the home of Emmalene Goodwin. Other committee mem bers include Frances Baird, Pauline Benson, Velma Friende, Annie Hariston, Mary Jenkins, Mavis Lloyd and Barbara Puryear.
