So, we've decided to try to put on a tour nament to see what would happen. I'm not playing in it. These knees don't do too well up and down the court any more. But I will beat anyone. one-on-one." The Jayhawks pulled away in overtime outscoring the Tigers 12-5. The rest is history. It is a shame one team had to lose. I'm just glad it was Memphis. What got me was how most people didn't want to give Kansas a chance, espe cially against yNC. People were talking about how they almost lost to Davidson. Well, that same Davidson team should 've beaten Carolina ear lier in the season too. So, I was straight with that. Then, a lot of people jumped on the Memphis bandwagon, only to watch them miss free throws down the stretch and miss countless buckets. Listen to me next time. I wonder if people still think Derrick Rose should go ahead of Kansas State's Michael Beasley. Rose played a decent game, despite having some kind of stomach problem. But he got crossed up so bad dur m sencUh***** i tNgpWfpe then. ?Wncrt launched the game-tying backet in his grill. That was just a great game. It's rare for me to want to watch anything more than once. I don't even like to buy movies because I don't want to see them anymore after the first time watching it. Same way with games, unless I am a part of them. I don't usually want to watch a game over and over. But I wouldn't mind checking this game out again. I can't say it's because I already know the outcome because ^predicted the final score weeks before it actually went down. Why was Roy Williams wearing Kansas logo? Is it just me or was it wrong for UNC head coach Roy Williams to be wearing a blue shirt with the Kansas Jayhawk logo on it? I'm just saying. That doesn't seem cool. I even had to debate with my publisher about the issue. He's a Carolina graduate that doesn't see anything wrong with Williams gearing a Jayhawk logo, despite the fact that he's being paid by UNC now. I thought that was a com plete slap in the face of all UNC fans and players. Go home with them. Put on a Carolina blue shirt. I know he packcd enough clothes. It seems like everyone wantod^A . put he and his team in the * championship game before the tournament started. So, that's not the issue. It was just a bad move. I've heard that he will always support KU if they are not playing UNC. Move on. If you ask me, it looked like he Alonzo Winfiel was cheering for KU when UNC was losing to them in the Final Four. How many points did they have to be down by before he called a timeout? Some of the players said that he really didn't have much to say during timeouts and huddles. That's very inter esting. But it goes with what I've been saying about Roy Williams all along. I think he's extremely overrated as a coach. I haven't liked him since witnessing how he did Reyshawn Terry. I didn't think too much of him before that. Aod,., I (iffinijely thou gift much less of him after that. ?That still doesn't take aw?^"" Trom the fact that he's really not that talented as a coach. Just my opinion. It's also my opinion that he shouldn't have been wearing that KU logo. I know some of you feel me on this. Alonzo Winfield doing it Big at USC Former Carver linebacker Alonzo Winfield is having a great off season at the University of South Carolina, where he's entering his second year. He's presently compet ing for a starting spot at line backer, and is turning quite a few heads. Zoe might work his way to a starting spot. I know he put down a crazy 40-yard dash time recently. Winfield was clocked at 4.38 a few weeks ago, which was the second fastest time recorded on the squad. Digest that for a minute. Zoe is a line backer with the second fastest 40 time on the team. That's what's up. I'll have to keep an eye on Winfield's progression through the off season. Anthony Hill is the sports editor for The Chronicle. He can be reached at 722-8624 (ext. I know he will help guide our athletic scholars to suc cess." Pitts has been a part of ath letics for over 35 years, which began during his days as a player at Parkland High. He's also coached on the AAU level, as well as assisted at Parkland High. Pitts has always envisioned the day that he would become a head coach and run his own pro gram. "This is truly something that I've wanted to do for a long time," Pitts said. "God said this i* what He has for me. This is a small school, and a first-year program. Some people look at it as a glass half empty. I see it as A glass halfway full. I'm going to fill it up. I understand that I have a job to do. I'm looking forward to getting to work." Pitts has plans of starting a boys and girls basketball bas ketball team. He would also like to start cross country, girls volleyball and track and field. Pitts said he plans to start a cheerleading squad in year two. and a baseball, soft ball and soccer program in year three. Pitts said his first order of official business was to hire a varsity girls coach, and join the NCHSAA (North Carolina High School Athletic Astociation). "We're going to compete independently our first year, kind of like Winston-Salem Prep did," said Pitts. "Then, we hope to compete in the high school athletic associa tion. I don't see why we wouldn't. Next year we will play some good teams, though. Our basketball sched ule has Veritas Christian Academy, Patterson High, Asheville and Davie County. We'll also play in the Piedmont Challenged in Greensboro and Battle of the Boardwalk in New Jersey. We won't play any teams in Winston, but we're going to have a good schedule next year. I'm just looking forward to it. We'll have a young squad. The oldest class .we will have will be eleventh grade. But we'll be ready." ?
