Recent graduates of the Trashbusters program. * Trashbusters will hold youth forums on Sunday SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE Trashbusters of the Triad, Inc., a program that helps young people realize their purpose and reach their full potential, is implementing a nc>* liiiuaiivtr iu uicci 111c needs of young boys. On Sunday April 5. at Goodwill Industries at 2701 University Parkway, Trashbusters will host its first open forum for \oung boys. "Man L'p: Boys Owning Their Actions and Being Accountable." from 2 - 4 p.m. A separate forum will also be held for girls at the same time Its theme is. "Blooming L'p Girls Growing Up and Being Responsible." The forums are for youths from 1- - 18 years of age. They are free and new participants are wel come Trashbusters adminis tered more than 20 forums and specially-designed pro grams in 2008. The girls who participated in the pro grams have shown a marked improvement in their aca demics, social adeptness and self-esteem. "We aire extremely pleased with the outcomes frOm Tra-shbusters' work last year," said Tabetha Bailey, founder of Trashbusters of the Triad. "Our goal was to ensure that young ladies had the opportunity to grow and develop in various areas. Certainly, they were able to articulate that growth, but more 'importantly they dis piayea it in tneir everyaay life." The opportunities for girls and boys will continue in 2(K)9 with programs each month which deal with the foundational issues young people face on a daily basis. This year our young people will experience everything from visits to col lege campuses to observing youth court and touring a juvenile detention center," said Cheryl Lindsay, vice president of the organiza tion's board. "It is imperative that we provide them with the exposure necessary to realize the strength and power of their choices. When they volunteer to help senior citizens, participate in the Homeless Youth Community Project and engage in activities that are fun and exciting, they become well rounded chil dren who develop into pro1 ductive adults." Hill Magnet goes green SPECIAL TO THE C HRONICLE Hill Middle Magnet and Arts School now has a beauti ful Unity Garden The project came to fruition after Johnell T Hunter, a substitute teacher and head of the Bless the Children Family Outreach Ministries, volun teered to create a green space for the school to the delight of Principal Laura Hodges. Hodges wanted a garden, a flower bed. mulching, plants, trees and beautification of the entire school grounds. Hunter offered to help get the ball rolling in partnership with the school with the Bless the Children Program , which regu larly creates gardens to help beautify the city. Barbara Puryear. president of Brown Alumni Chapter, a WSSU instructor and National Alumni Association scholarship chairperson, invited the participants to apply directly to the National Alumni Association for renewable scholarships. The students, parents and other members engaged the presenters in an informative question and answer session about the university and financial assistance. E Gray's 3()th Anniversary' on Sunday, Apnl 5 at 4 p.m. In December 1978. Dr. Gray felt his calling from God to deliver His Word. On January 11, 1979. he preached his first semion at St. Stephen Missionary Church, under Dr. J R Samuels Then, on November. 4. 1979, he was installed as the pastor of Mt Olive Baptist Church and has been serving in this capacity ever since. Dr. Gray was educated in the public schools and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science from Fayetteville State University, He received his Master's and Doctorate Degree from Andersonville Theological Seminary. He graduated Summa Cum Laude. Dr. Gray has been blessed with a lovely wife, Mrs. Eula Harlee Gray, for more than 45 years They have two sons, Andre' and Michael; one grandson. Charles Michael; and one granddaughter, Chau Gray Dre'. Under the anointed leader ship and guidance of Dr. Gray. God has taken Mt. Olive to new heights. The Mass Choir has produced two gospel CDs, "Let God Be God" and Magnify Him." Dr Gray has written and presented three plays "Let God Be God." "Older My Steps," and "The Upper Room to Calvary." The church has grown tremendous ly adding a new fellow ship hall and 6 classrooms. Dr. Gray will tell you that all of these accomplishments are wonderful but his number one goal is and always has been leading lost souls to Christ. The church is at 1301 C.E. Gray Drive.
