S r A group of members of the Dunn Order of the Eastern Star met Friday afternoon at two o’clock at the home of Mrs. Paul L. Strick land, Sr., for an old fashioned quilting bee. The quilt is to be presented to the Masonic Eastern Star Home in Greensboro. The women quilted all afternoon and at 6 enjoyed supper. The menu consisted of chicken pot pie, fried chicken, potato salad, string beans. English peas, cake, ice cream and coffee. Those taking part in the quilt ing bee were Mrs. James Surles, 1 Mrs. J. C. Strickland, Sr., the hostess. Celebrates 70th Birthday Sunday Mrs. Effie West was entertained on her 70th birthday Sunday with a birthday dinner at the home of her son, Mr. Vernon West in Dunn. Carr St. Spring flowers in attractive ar rangements and a bouquet of beau tiful carnations were used for the enjoyable evening of bridge.. Upon arrival of the members a delicious dessert course consisting of angel food cake topped with tempting fruit and whipped cream served With punch. During play nuts, candies and soft drinks were passed. The recipient of high score for men when the scores were tallied was John Thornton, Jr., who re ceived theatre tickets. An attrac tive bud vase went to Mrs. Alsey JohnsCn for high score among the ladies. Traveling prize, a box of Valentine candy, went to Mrs Ed Wade. Those playing for the evening were Mr. and Mrs. R. Mrs. Ross Hostess To Bridge Club Mrs. Neill McKay Ross, who en tertained the members of the Off- Duty Bridge Club on Wednesday night had two special guests, Mrs. George Fuller of Ridgefield. N. J., the former Miss Winifred Baggett, and Miss Eloise Hendricks. Members playing were Mrs. Frank Lewis. Mrs. Lewis McKin ney, Mrs. W. H. Byrd, Mrs. Ru pert Bradley, Mrs. G. M. Nor wood, Jr., and Miss Vara Lee Thornton. Mrs. Byrd won high score and Mrs. Norwood received the low, while traveling award went to Mrs. Bradley. Cakes and nuts were served during the bridge games and at the conclusion of the play, the hostess served strawberry shortcake and coffee. Next meeting of the fortnightly, card club will be with Miss Vara Lee Thornton at the teacherage. McKay Ave. The party was in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Millard Peedin, newlyweds of Pine Level. The rooms of the home were beautifully arranged with a lovely low bowl of red camellias and greenery on the coffee table, and the mantle held an arrange ment of red carnations and fern flanked by tall red burning tapers. The honoree was presented a lov ely corsage of carations in the shape of a heart and crystal in her chosen pattern from th* hostesses. A Valentine nVotif was carried out In the decorations for the enjoy able affair. During play candy, cookies and cokes were passed. Af ter scores were compiled tempt ing refreshments of ham biscuits, cream cheese and pineapple sand wiches in the shape of hearts, in dividual iced cake squares, potato chips, pickles and coffee was ser ved the group.
