Executive of Burger King Corporation is bqfng congratulated by member of OMBE. —- — • - • ^ J Burger King Sponsors • ^ i Minority Enterprise MIAMI-Burger King Corporation has sponsored a new Minority Enterprise Small Business Investment Company, Burger King MESBIC, Inc., capitalized at $250,000 and headquartered in Miami to provide venture capital to minority businessmen across the nation. The U S. Commerce Department's Office of Minority Business Enterprise (OMBE) will work closely with the fast food company to implement the program. Over and beyond the significance of such cooperation between the fast food industry, as represented by Burger King Corporation, and the U S Government, is the fact that Burger King MESBIC, Inc , as licensed hy the Small Business Ad ministration, out of fifty-one MESBICs now operating across the country is the first single purpose company. The SBA waived the requirement that licensed MESBICs invest not more than 20 percent of their assets in a single Standard Industrial Classification firm. Relieved of this restriction, Burger King may invest all capital funds in the business of minority franchise. As Arthur A Rosewall, President and Chief Executive Officer has expressed. "Burger King Corporation's * participation in the minority enterprise effort will realize new business opportunities for minority group members " J G. Hollingsworth, Group Vice President of Marketing for Burger King commented, "Burger King has led the way in fast food franchising to minority groups. We are . pleased to take this additional step which we feel will pave , the way for further meaningful expansion in this important area of our development We have high expectations for the MESBIC concept and hope to lend our own strength and experience to its support."
