I “I don't recommend this business unless you’re ready for a lot of hard work, she advised "If you want to get in it you should first be aware that the movie business does not stand still. You should stay positive and be determined that what you want you can do." *• Miss Hendry was full of suggestions and ideas and quite eager to encourage ^aoxmjsgciflusly interested in actingTToTry it but abbve alP’ she said, "Don’t Give Up.” When asked her opinion about black films today she said. “ "I am rather happy that there is a market for black movies. Our films are getting better . We as black actors and actresses now have a chance to extend ourselves. The quality of films are getting better and they are around because there is a market for them. I couldn't knock them because these very pictures are keeping black actresses and actors out of unem ployment lines. My hope is that the films will continue.” What she hasn't been 'aught. Miss Hendry has apparently learned for her self. Those who have worked with her immediately admire her determination and spirit. As an actress, she describes her self in this way. "What I try to do as an actress is open up to the person. To the people I’m working with, I try to give as much as I can...I try my best to get into their- per, sonalities." Miss Hendry has ap parenty found the path that will lead her to success in the area she's chosen. She is one example for black people and she should be admired as well as supported. When she completes her promotion tour. Miss Hendrv will be going to the Philippines to film another movie. Also in the making is a sequel to “Black Belt Jones.” which she will star. To Miss Gloria Hendry we say, “right on and keep on trucking.” 4-Year-Old Upstages Sanford Friday Night One recurring performer on Channel Nine’s "Sanford and Son’’ program has never missed a cue or fluffed a line. This exceptional actress will be seen again on "Sanford and Son” Friday, Jan. 25 at 7:30 p m. on Channel Nine. In a previous episode Ninny’s role called for her to walk into the Sanford home Rosey Grier To Star In Sunday Night Movie Comedian Buddy Hackett, in a rare dramatic role, guest stars with Rosey Grier in “McMillan and Wife,” on Channel Nine’s “NBC Sunday Mystery Movie.” Jan. 27 at 8:30. Ragtime Pianist To Perform Here Ragtime pianist, singer and comedian Max Morath will perform at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Jan. 28. An entertainer-historian, Morath will feature the piano rags of Scott Joplin and Jelly Roll Morton, the sons of Bert Williams and Irving Berlin and other early artists. Morath first gained national attention in the early sixties with two television series dealing with the ragtime era. In 1989 in New York, he launched the theatrical revue , "Max Morath at the Turn of the Century,” and then went on national tour. -His performance at 8 p.m. in the Rowe Recital Hall at UNCC is free and open to the public. New Births To Perform In Rock Hill ROCK HILL-The New Birth, a group of sou) musicians who recorded the hit single "It's Impossible," will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday Jan. 26 in Byrnes Auditorium at Win throp College. Advance tickets are *2 for Winthrop students and $3 for others. Tickets will be sold 9 a.m. to 4 p.m Monday, Jan, 21 through Friday, Jan. 25 in Dinkins Student Center. Cost is 50 cents more at the door. The New Birth, with its four singers and seven-man band, is an exciting performing group as well as an excellent recording group The singers are Alan Frye, I^ondee Loren, l>«lie Wilson, and Melvin Wilson, The group recently played at the "Soul at the Center Festival” held in New York's Lincoln Center. Black Ivory, successful newcomers to the soul scene, will also play The concert is the final event of Winthrop College v Black Week.
