Mayoral Candidates To Debate Live On WBTV
tty jacquie i^evisier
Post Staff Writer
On Monday night, October
31 at 9:30 p.m., WBTV’s News
Department will air, live, the
joint television appearance of
mayoral candidates Ken Har
ris and Jim Whittington.
What previously was repor
ted as an upcoming debate
between the two candidates
will in actuality not be a
debate." The program we
have scheduled does not have
the format of a debate and is
therfore simply a joint ap
pearance," informed News
Director Bill Ballard.
The agenda for the thirty
minute show will include 2
minute opening statements by
each candidate and 60 seconds
response time by each to the
others opening statement. The
remaining 24 minutes will find
Mike Cozza and Barry Ah
rendt of WBTV asking “ques
tions they, as news reporters,
deem pertinent to the cam
paign,” stated Ballard.
“We at WBTV view this
program as an excellent op
portunity for our viewers to
examine the positions of both
candidates as they appear
side by side,” Ballard offered.
“We shall continue to tho
roughly cover the council race
on our regular news program
ming," he concluded.
This program, being pro
duced by the Mews Deparment
of WBTV, will be one of a
continuous line of news broad
casts the station produces.
Monday night, October 31,
9:30 p.m. on WBTV, Channel
3. Tune them in!
