Local Choirs To
Help Raise Funds
MLK Statue

About 10 religious choirs
will gather Sunday at Char
lotte’s Park Center at 2:30
p.m. to "sing praises to Al
mighty God” in an effort to
raise the $29,239 in cash and
pledges for the Martin Luther
King Statue Fund Drive to
$40,000, according to the Rev.
James Barnett, spearhead of
the King Memorial effort.
Rev. Barnett said Radio
Station WGIV, THE CHAR
LOTTE POST and his own
Barnett Promotions are spon
soring a “Gathering of
Choirs” program “to push
towards a goal of $40,000. That
is, to raise the $29,239 in cash
and pledges for the MLK Me
morial Statue by about 33
percent.”
Barnett noted that the spon
soring groups’ actions in this
program are not affiliated
with nor sanctioned by the
Mayor-appointed MLK Me
morial Fund Committee that

Highlighting the "gathering
of 10 or more religious singing
groups for the 2:30 to 6 p.m
program” will be Bill Moss
and the Celestrials from De
troit, Michigan, and the South
ern Voices from Mooresville,
North Carolina.
