jFaityWkhAPiupose Juvenile Diabetes Foundation Invites You To A Fun Evening By Jeri Harvey Post Staff Writer The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation is inviting you to "A Party With A Purpose"...a fun evening of comedy and music followed by an elegant party. It is the third annual theatre party held by the group to raise funds for diabe tes research This year’s affair is “JAC QUES BREL IS ALIVE AND WELL AND LIVING IN PA RIS." Show time is 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening, November 13, and Dana Auditorium on the Queen’s College campus is the place. _ After the show there’ll be an o After-Theatre Party in the foyer of Dana Auditorium and some terrific door prizes will also be given away: -a weekend at a Villa on Hilton Head Island -deluxe accommodations for two at the Radisson Plaza with dinner in the Reflections Room. Ticket contributions are $10 per person. You are also invit ed to become a Patron of JDF at $25 per person - a tax deductible contribution. According to a JDF spokes man, there is hardly a family that diabetes does not touch. JDF has become a strong, viable local and national vo luntary health agency whose main goal is to fund research into the cause and cure of diabetes. The public is being asked to continue supporting diabetes research by at tending this gala affair and encouraging friends to attend also. Black Experience Booklet Ready nie mat* experience in Revoluntionary North Caro lina,” a new booklet in the N.C. Bicentennial Pamphlet Series, is now available. The 121-page softcover booklet, written by Dr. Jeffrey J. Crow of the Historical Pub lications Section of the De partment of Cultural Resour ces, outlines the growth of slavery in colonial North Ca rolina, studies patterns of white control and black resis tance, 4)d describes the parti cipation of blacks in the Revo lutionary War and the impact of the Revolution on the sla ves. ‘‘The study...attempts to ex amine the nature of life for black Carolinians,” Dr. Crow writes in the preface. Dr. Crow relied extensively on public records, such as court documents, to research the booklet. The scarcity of man uscripts dealing with planta tion life in North Carolina reflects the make-up of the state's population-mostly small farmers who owned few, if any, slaves. Dr. Crow emphasizes that although slavery was “firmly rooted in the Old North State by 1800, its growth lagged behind the development of slavery in other southern co lony-states.” The booklet shows that al though many Afro-Americans served on the patriot side, many more joined the British luiumger, r ire Chief To Attend City Manager David A. Burkhalter and Fire Chief John E. Lee attended a three day National Fire Prevention and Control Administration conference in St. Louis, Mis souri October 24-26. More than 1,000 persons are expected to attend.
