Atlantic Introduces New Temptations Trammps LP's More than 600 persons from both sides of the Atlantic converged on Manhattan's Studio 54 discotheque last Fri day night, as Atlantic Records introduced autumn-released disco product to a wide forum of press, radio, and retail representatives. The brand-new album re leases included in the special 3-hour presentation were: The Temptations' Atlantic debut, "HEAR TO TEMPT YOU," a Baker-Harris-Young produc tion featuring the current sin gle, "IN A LIFETIME"; "LO VE FOR SALE," the second WSUi, To Air "The Bette Midler Special" Bette Midler headlines her first musical variety TV spe cial - joined by motion picture star Dustin Hoffman, famed circus clown Emmett Kelly and The Harlettes singing group - when Channel Nine presents "The Bette Midler Special," Wednesday, Dec ember 7 at 10 p.m. Highlights of the special include a "Gifts from the Sea" opening production number; Kelly doing his classic spot light sweeping act while Mid ler sings "Friends"; Midler singing the lyrics, which she wrote, to a bittersweet piano medley ("Dusty's Tune" and "Shoot the Breeze"), compos ed and played by Hoffman; and Hoffman playing Rach maninoff's Prelude in C Sharp Minor, in a humorous and romantic scene and Bette. Midler also sings "In the Mood," "Shiver Me Tim bers," "La Vie En Rose," "Delta Dawn," "Do You Wan na Dance," and "Higher and Higher." She flashes back to "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," a song popular during World War II and ends with "Fri ends," her theme song. *,nuaren g ι neaire To Present Christmas Musical Chidren's Theatre is presen ting a Christmas Musical, ON A SNOWY DAY, December 9th and 16th at 7:30 and December 10, 11, 17, 18 at 2 and 4 p.m. Susan Marrash is directing this special Christmas play, and the musical director is Roealyn Cobb. The musical was written by Pat Gilbreath with music by the late Thomas Cousins, A North Carolina composer who lived and wor ked in Charlotte. This show is full of a child's fantasy of Christmas, with angels, toy soldiers, a dancing doll. Santa, and witches! Tickets go on sale at the box office December 5th for $1.75, or may be purchased at the door if available. Box office is open from 10 to 2 at 1017 East Morehead Street. In addition to scores of disco-spinners, radio and tele vision personalities and jour nalists from the U.S. and Canada, there was a sizeable contingent of related music industry figures led by Atlan tic President Jerry Greenberg - who hosted the product presentation - and Westbound President Armen Boladian. Also in attendance were Earl Young and members of the Trammps, Chic, Ray Bar rette, Luther Vandross, rock group AC-DC, disco colum nists Tom Moulton of BILL BOARD and Vince Aletti of RECORD WORLD, Ms. Bobbi Humphrey, Kenny Davis of BT Express, and many other celebrities. Working in coordination wi th the forces of WEA Interna· tional, Atlantic's Vice Presi dent-International Manager Bob Kornheiser and European Artists Relations Director Claude Nobs sponsored seve ral media representatives from the Continent for the event: From Germany, jour nalist Wolfgang Freund and radio personality Burk Me tens; from Belgium, JOEPIE magazine's Els van den Ab beele and radio-tv personality Christine Goor; from Italy, CIAO 2001 correspondent Ser gio Costa and radio-tv produc er Dario Salvatori, and from Holland, POP SHOP maga zine's Theo Hogenboom and DAILY TELEGRAAF journa list Bum Verbiezen.
