mi r 4il Rev. DeGrandval Burke ..Achievements are numerous Burke Named To Who’s Who Among Blacks By Debra Stanley Post Staff Writer Rev. DeGrandval Burke has been listed in the 1978 Edition of “Who's Who Among Black Americans.’’ Bom in Matthews, N.C. in 1909, Rev. Burke received his early education in the Meck lenburg County schools. After graduation from Harbison institute, Irmo, S.C., he ^aduated from J.C. Smith (Magna Cum Laude) with a B. S. Degree in 1938. Rev. Burke’s list of achieve ments are numerous, includ ing a M. A. Degree from McCormick Theological Semi nary, educator, minister, chairman of various commit tees, numerous memberships, listing in “Personalities of the South,” "Minister of the Year,” and many others. According to a brochure published by "Who’s Who •, Among Black Americans," it is stated that “in implement ing demanding yet realisti cally flexible standards for inclusion in Who’s Who Among Black Americans, primary consideration is given to the extent of an individual's re ference interest. In turn, that reference in terest, noting in many cases the unique contributions of Black Americans in an evolv ing but still restricted society, focuses on two factors: 1) the position of responsibility held and 2) the level of significant achievement attained in a career of men tori us activity.. Admissions based on indivi dual achievement are deter * mined by various criteria qua i^atively compiled for the various spheres of activity. To be selected on this basis, an individual must have accom plished some conspicuous achievement-something that distinguishes him from the vast majority of his contem poraries,” the statement con cluded. Obviously, Rev. Burke has achieved prominence in the Black Community and has been a significant figure in American progress and culture.
