For two years, Gene Gil
more has been the pastor
of Temple Chapel Baptist
Church. And this year just
like last year the congre
gation of Temple Chapel
have set their activities in
to motion in an effort to ex
press their gratitude to
him in an annual pastor's
appreciation service.
Activities will com
mence with a musical con
cert which will be present
ed by the Pastor's Aide
Committee. Featured in
this concert will be the
Steele Creek AME Zion
Choir. This program will
begin at 6:30 p.m. on
Saturday, July 19. Imme
diately following the musi
cal concert, a womanless
wedding which will be
performed as a lightheart
ed treat is sure to put a
smile on everyone's face
However, those activités
are only considered pre
pastor appreciation day
programs and the actual
program will begin on Sun
day, July 20 at 1 p.m.
starting with a fellowship
dinner which will be held
in the F.C. Pinckney fel
lowship hall. After the fel
lowship dinner the congre
gation will listen to an
inspiring message given by
Dr. Harold S. Diggs, pastor
of Mayfield Memorial Bap
tist Church at 2:30 p.m.

vice.

the Pastor's Appreciation program.

In gratitude for his seven years of service
the committee presented him with a
check as a token of appreciation from the
congregation and Mrs. Rucker gave him
a gift.
Highlighting activities were four choirs
which provided 'musical entertainment.
They were the Youth Choir, J. T. White
Singers, Walls Memorial Choir and the
Spiritual Charlottes.
Following the program a banquet was
held in the dining area.

of First Mayfield Memorial
Baptist Church will ob
serve their annual wo
men's day program on
Sunday, July 20. This
year's speaker for their 11
a.m. morning service will
be Mrs. Dorothy Broom
field Cherry, Itinerant
teacher, gifted and talent
ed in the Charlotte-Meck
lenburg School System.
First Mayfield Memorial
Baptist Church is located
at 901 Oaklawn Ave. Rev.
Jeremiah Robinson, who is
the pastor, invites every
one to come and share.
Later that afternoon at
3:30 p.m. the Missionaries
of the First Mayfield
Memorial Baptist Church
will hold their annual ser
vice. For this year's pro
gram the missionaries
have chosen "The Chris
tian Challenge For A Des
perate World" as their
theme. Speaking on this
theme will be Louise Good
man, a member of St. Paul
Baptist Church. A true
Christian, Mrs. Goodman
has been a member of St.
Paul for 56 years. She is the
president of St. Paul's
Missionary and she works
closely with the Boy
Scouts. The public is in
vited to come and help
make this program a
success.
Bus Ridership Continuée Its Upward Climb

tinued it's upward climb
with an increase of 17.07
percent or 80,837 more
riders as compared to
June, 1979. June marked
the 11th of the past 12
months that revenue pas
sengers exceeded the
500,000 mark, as a total of
555,354 revenue passengers
were carried by CTS last
month.
Express bus ridership al
so increased (172.48 per
cent) over June, 1979, when
34,564 riders used the city's
nine express bus routes. An
increase was also found in
the sale of monthly
(TRAC) bus passes, total
ing 127.6 percent over last
year.
During the fiscal year
(July. 1979 - June, 1980)
6,591,687 total revenue pas
senders were carriea on
city buses. This marks an
increase of 20.4 percent or
an additional 1,116,920 re
venue passengers over the
previous fiscal year. City
buses traveled over 3.8 mil
lion miles during the fiscal
year, saving 3.3 million

gallons of gasoline from
being consumed if pas
sengers had used private
automobiles ' instead ol
riding the bus. Charlotte is
