AME ZION Little Rock AME Zion Church, 401 North McDow Most Pensions Require Special Tax Treatment GREENSBORO - A person receiving a pension or annuity should be sure of the tax status of that in come, the Internal Revenue Service says. A pension to which an employee contributed no thing during his or her employment is fully tax able and must be reported on the Form 1040, even if expenses are not itemized by the taxpayer on Sched ule A and B. However, that portion of -the pension to which tho employer and employee contributed, while not fully taxable, is partially tax able and is subject to spe cial tax reporting, the IRS said. If a retiree will recover his or her total contribu tions within 36 months after the first payment is re ceived, then the annuity payments are not taxes until the contributions are recovered. This is because the contributions were taxed while the person was employed. Those who will not recover their contribu tions within a 36-month period are entitled to ex clude from taxable income a certain percentage of their pensions each year. Normally, the issuer of the pension will compute the exclusion percentage. If the issuer of the pension does not compute this per centage, instructions can be found in IRS Public ation 575, “Pension and Annuity Income,” avail able free from the IRS. Additional information concerning pensions either taxable or non-taxable is available by calling the IRS toll free at 1-800 822-8800 any week day. “SUBSCRIBE TO THE POST -yni !R si fppoRT hfi Confidentiality — Privacy If You Need Alcoholism Counseling Or Help With Related Problems -See HUNTER Curtis Hunter For Appointment 535-2536_ ell Street, invites you to attend their week of pre dedication services begin ning Sunday, April 18. at 6:30 p.m. through Friday, April 23,— The services Monday through Friday will hpgin each evening at 7:30 with guest ministers and con gregations.
