Often times those familiar fcospel songs still sung today kept hope within the family structure during turmoil. Then in 1944 my mother died and I made a promise to ha that I would con tinue singing.” mere were many opportunities for Maxwell to lend his voice to rhythm and blues and other secu lar music. “God has been real good to me. 1 have traveled tluuugh snow, rain, sleet, in the mountains and not once have I had a wreck.
