Dr. MaMe McLean .Barber-Scotia president Wachovia Bank Donates $2,000 To Barber-Scotia Wachovia Bank & Trust Co. has donated $2,000 to Barber-Scotia Col lege, as part of its continuing sup port for the United Negro College Fund. Wachovia city executive Timothy Crist iresented the check recently to Bartx r-Scotia president Dr. Mable McLc in. The donation, Crist said, repre sents the bank’s continuing support for the UN(JF, by way of one of its n member institutions. » He said Wachovia has a strong faith in education and believes Barber-Scotia College makes a worthwhile contribution to the community. “This contribution from Wachovia will provide a decided acceleration toward the goal of Barber-Scotia College,” said McLean. “The gift represents the investment of a new corporation .in a community which. has a very old college as part of its inner life and achievement.” The UNCF, of which Barber Scotia is a part, raises money annuallyforthe operating expense of 42 historically black private colleges and universities. Contributions go toward scholar ship aid, help pay faculty salaries, buy textbooks and equipment, and aid in other aspects of college life. Summer Internships Need a summer job? It is not too early for college students to begin planning for the summer of 1984, especially if they are interested in a state govern ment internship. A total of 115 internship positions will be avail able in locations across the state. - Students will work for-10 weeks, to August 9, agfl will earn approximately $15<rper week. They s will attend seminars and tours to ' learn more about state government. To be eligible for an Ugeimship, a student must be attending a North Carolina college, university, com munity college or technical institute or be a North Carolina resident attending an equivalent out-of-state institution. College and university students must have completed their sophomore year, while students in a two-year technical program must have completed one year of study. The application deadline is Janu ary 5,1984. Students must submit the new N.C. State Government In ternship Application form. Other application forms will not be - accepted. Applications, and information about specific projects, guidelines and the selection process are avail able at campus career placement offices. If you’re a member of a youth group or or ganization planning a worthwhile project for young people, you may be able to receive a mini grant from the N.C. State Youth Council to assist you. ~ The North Carolina State Youth Council awards mini-grants to or ganizations three times each year. ' The deadline for accepting ap plication for these grants is Janu ary I. The applications will be screened and approved at the State Youth Council Board of Directors’ quart erly meeting which will be held in High Point January 25-27. Awards are reviewed by the State Youth Advisory Council before being granted.
