June 29. i orq Fund Helps Businesses Create New Employment More than 1,100 new Jobs have been created by minority-owned companies that received loans through the Business Consor tium Fund (BCFJ. The BCF Is an expansion capi tal loan program of the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC). Twenty-six Fortune 500 corporations have Invested nearly $11 million In the BCF thus far. The funds are used to provide loans to minori ty vendors who have contracts with member companies of the NMSDC Network. According to a recent BCF sur vey, 900 fidl-Ume and 200 p>art- tlme jobs were created by mi nority businesses that received loans through the BCF In the last 18 months. "These 1,100 new jobs, repre sent an annual payroll of over $6 million. This disposable In come, In turn, generates other economic opportunities," said Leonard Schutzman, senior vice president and treasurer of Pep siCo, and chairman of the Busi ness Consortium Fund. Wright Wright Wins Award The Charlotte charter chapter of the American Business Wom en's Association (ABWA) elected Joyce F. Wright as 1989 'Woman of the Year." Wright has been a member of ABWA for six years. During that time, she has cheilred: History/ Scrapbook, Ways & Means, the Lending Library and Enroll ment committees. She has served as a member of the Hos pitality, Ways & Means and the Education and Newsletter com mittees. Wright has been an active member and held several oSlces In the Boy Scouts of America. She received the Silver Beaver award for 1988. She Is currently serving as District Program Chairperson, Council Cub Training Chairperson and North Star District Program Chairperson. She is a member of the Hard ing High School PTSA Board and has served as Legislative Representative for Harding High School at the Council PTA meet ings. Wright was recently elected to serve on the Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools PTA Council as Area Vice President for Harding/Myers Park feeder area. BCF support of minority busi ness development In America is a "wln-wln situation," according to Marcial Roblou, BCF presi dent and general manager. "The corporations are assured that minority vendors have the necessary capital to perform on major contracts and minority businesses are able to grow and thereby create the jobs which are sorely needed In minority communities," said Roblou.
