GRAND OPENING FEB. 10th - END OF MONTH
though. There are numerous
exhibits at the Afro-American
Cultural Center throughout
the year that convey where
African Americans are and
from whence we came, African
American Tours is a motorized
history lesson, taking patrons
on a scenic cruise of the city’s
historical and cultural land
marks.
There are numerous individ
uals who have turned docu
menting black history into a
passionate life’s calling.
Africaologist Melodye Micere
Stewart lectures frequently
about African American and
African achievement to stu
dents as well as social groups.
WBTV reporter Steve Crump
uses videotape as his method
of communication. He has
done several documentaries on
Africa, including Charlotte’s
sister city of Kumasi, Ghana.
His latest work focuses on
black photojournalists who
were eyewitnesses to the civil
rights era.
Whether you visit an exhibit,
read a book or watch a docu
mentary, there’s plenty of his
tory to learn. Do it.
HERBERT L. WHITE is edi
tor-in-chief of The Charlotte
Post.
