Fans appreciate Panthers’ season Continued from page 1A sort of snuck up on people,” he said. “This is a first for us.” Lawrence said the Panthers are the first team to put the Charlotte on a world stage. “The Hornets never made it this far in the playoffs,” he said. ‘"We had a good show ing on the world stage.” Vendors, who braved the cold temperatures after the game ended, said they saw a slight drop in sales. But some fans were still grab bing Panther memorabilia. “A lot of people came here and supported the stands,” said vendor Rahman Istawah, who was stationed at the comer of Seventh and Tryon streets. Police officers stood on the street comers, bracing for whatever could happen. But, according to Officer Andre Briggs, everyone was well behaved. “If we would have won it would have been a lot worse,” he said as he looked at a swell of traffic on Tryon Str^t. He pointed to The Fox and the Hound and said “This bar would have been packed. Now, we might make it home by 2 (a.m.) instead of 4,” he said. But Briggs wouldn’t have complained if it meant the Panthers were bringing the Vince Lombardi trophy back to the Queen City. Regardless, we know that Jada’spersonality will lead her to the top. “Student of the Month” Jada McElrath strives to maintain her historic seat on the A-B Honor Roll, but admits that distractions often make it a challenge. Even though Jada’s favorite subject is science, she thoroughly enjoys writing. Paving the way for the future, Jada was a competitive dancer with B.B. Dance Productions for six years. Our aspiring artist also performed with the Afro-American Children’s Theatre, Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, and North Carolina Dance Academy. An active member of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, Jada is a member of Youth in Action, which volunteers to help others in the community, an altar server, and a member of the liturgical dance team. In her spare time, Jada enjoys dancing and spending time on the computer. Jada is the pride and joy of her grandparents, Richard and Jackie McElrath, which she affectionately calls, Nana and Papa.
