Chowan bench and quicloely
sparked the Braves to a touch

the ball to Warren. He went into
the end zone from six yards out.

to A1 Pierce who returned the

their fine offensive blocking.
With in the next 10 plays the
ball changed hands eight times
due to five fumbles.

who took the ball and returned
it 23 yards to his own 42 yard

down. Bishop ran the ball for a
six yard gain and on the next
play Turner’s pass was knocked
down.
Chowan took the ball over at
this point, and ran the clock
out to win the game 19 to 13.
Even though Ben Rich, Ted
Rollins, and Jim Gravely did not
score the winning touchdowns
their play was the determineing
facto." in the victory. Rollins
broke through the big Fork Un
ion line often to throw the Fork
Union backs for huge losses. Ben
Rich’s performance at center
was one of the finest ever to be
wittnessed at Murfreesboro. Jim
Gravely’s defensive play stopped
many Fork Unions drives cold
that might have been a possible
touchdown.
Joe Dickerson with his arm
taped to his body played an out
standing game.
Other Braves that helped to
spark Chowan to their great vic
tory are Sam Cutler, Fletcher

Walter Sykes Our
All-State Trainer
Our boy is a combination doc
tor, nurse, intern, clubhouse
lawyer, house mother, muscle
man (with no muscles, all fat).
Whipping boy for the coach, spy.
and player’s friend. No one could
work the hours he does for the
trouble he gets. He is an ex
athlete himself. Played half a
season until he got hurt. Between
halves is his biggest workout.
He’s got about 20 minutes to
patch up 25 men. He’ll make a
fast diagnosis and patch every
one up. (Never had a day’s
medical training in his life.)
He gives treatments to make
the lame not walk, but run for
their lives. Our All-State trainer
is Walter Sykes. Congratulations
on a job well done from the boys
on the team.
Wood passed to end Dick Pad
gett for 35 yards that set the
