The North Carolina Automobile Financial Responsibility Law re quires, in part, that any person whose operator's or chauffeur's li cense has been revoked or sus pended under the provisions of the Uniform Driver's license Act, as amended, shall not be entitled to have said license again issued or reinstated until such person shall have given and thereafter maintains proof of his financial responsibility. The 1949 Session of the General Assembly amended the law to provide that such an applicant shall be immediately assigned to an insurance carrier, which carrier shall issue a motor vehicle liability policy meeting at least the minimum requirements for establishing financial respon sibility under the Law. Two plans for assignment of risks are now in operation, one a voluntary agreement by the Insurance carriers known as the North Carolina Automobile As signed Risk Plan, the other a plan embodying the provisions of the law amendment, and known as the North Carolina Statutory Automobile Assigned Risk Plan. Any applicant for automobile liability insurance who is in good faith entitled to such Insurance, including but not restricted to those whose licenses have been revoked or suspended, but who is unable to obtain such insurance through the usual channels, may apply for coverage under the Vol untary Plan. Any applicant who must furnish evidence of financial responsibility to the Department of Motor Vehicles in order to regain his driving privileges, but who does not meet the requirements for assignment under the Volun tary Plan may have his assign ment immediately taken care of under the Statutory Plan. Unrea sonable delays are impossible un der this procedure. Refusal of assignment under the Statutory Plan is limited to an applicant whose license is suspended or re voked, and continues to be sus pended or revoked, by the De partment of Motor Vehicles. If default occurs in the payment of the premium due under any policy, the policy may be cancell ed. R. Marks of the Marks Truck and Tractor Company, local deal ers. "The new models were planned by the company's economists after thousands of homemakers were consulted," Marks said. "The result is that super-conven ience was built into the designs." There are four entirely new In ternational Harvester Refrigera tors for 1950. They range in size from 7.4 cubic feet to 9% cubic feet, and there is a choice of full-width and conventional half width freezer, lockers, storing from ?5 up to 50 pounds of froren food. All models are com pact and require a minimum of floor area. Exclusive features developed by International Harvester for the new 1950 line are the "Egg-O Mat," an automatic egg contain er and dispenser; diffused interior lighting, and a built-in bottle opener. Shelves have safety edges that can't scratch. State Is Leader In Farm Bureau North Carolina Recaptures Leadership In Members From Georgia; Alabama In Second Spot GREENSBORO ? The North Carolina Farm Bureau Federation leads the South and is fifth in the nation in membership, Assis tant Secretary David Kelly re ported this week. Kelly said returns from 85 counties in the State showed that North Carolina recaptured first place from Georgia, which slip ped to third. He said North Car olina's total membership was 72,221, to 72,024 for Alabama and 71,145 for Georgia. The increase in southern mem bership was greatest in the nation. Mrs. A. M. Stevens Of Tabor City Dies TABOR CITY, Dec. 8? Mrs. A. M. Stevens, 68, died Monday mor ning at her home here after a long illness. Last rites were conducted Tues day afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Fire Baptized Holiness Church with the Rev. G. A. Guy, assisted by Rev. W. N. Norton, officiating. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Cemtery. Surviving are her husband, A. M. Stevens; three sons, H. D., G. E., and H. S. Stevens, all of Tabor City; two daughters, Mrs. Preston Watts and Mrs. Ed Jernigan, both of Tabor City; five brothers, F. C. Todd of Con way, S. C., D. A. Todd of Chad bourn, J. N.
