Methodist Protestant Church, met

19, and was called to order by the
President, Rev. W. E. Swain who
conducted the devotional exercises,
couimecciug at 10 o'clock.
The annual report of the Pi evi
dent read, points from which were
given in last week's Courier. The
report was referred to the proper

Death In Davidson.
J. H. Young, aged seventy-nine
veais and a 'Well known citizen of
Tyro, Davidson county, died sudden
lv at hit home Friday, the cause of
his death being unknown. He had
been in apparent health until strick
en. He was the head of a large
family and is survived by fou
daughters and one son.
Wbltaey to be Completed,
The Wbitaey Power Plant on the
Yadkin river near Salisbury, will
probably be sompleted at once
Work is expected to be resumed
within 30 days. More than $5000
000 have been spent on the works
and $2,000,000 additional will be
required.
Salem's fire Record.
Insurance Commissioner, Jas. R,
Young, reaorts that Salem has the
best fire record of any city in the
United States, bor the past 100
years the lire losses have been only
$3,000. The loss during 1908 has
been only $100.
Three Lynched.
Three negroes lynched at Union
City, Teun, Tuesday at noon, for
the murder of Uputy Suen
Jurmss, who attempted to arrest
them for disturbing religious wor
ship.
Died Suddenly.
T. A. Edwards, of Muir'a Chapel
died suddenly Saturday morning,
aged 73 years. The deceased was
np as uBtial and had inst built
fire when he fell dead. A wife an
two sons and three daughters su
yive him.
Negro Killed.
Henry Houston, a well known
negro of Statesville, was killed Dy
train, last Wednesday, tie was an
excellent cook, aa honest negro, bnt
was addicted to drink.

Biscoe Dramatic Club in the pre
sentation of a drama entitled "East
Lynoe. This club, with a few
banges in its personnel, announces
that on Tuesday night, December 1,
will present in the new auditorium
at Biscoe a new drama, in two acts,
entitled "Above the Clouds,"1 by the

Hume and Little daughter Burned.
The little three year-old daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Junius Beaver, of
High Point, was burned to death in
their home which was destroyed by
tire last Friday. All the household
goods were destroyed. The origin
of the fire is unknown.
