Some Warden or Committee Should Be Put In Charge of the Work, With a Small Fund to Draw Upon—How to Keep Lots In Order. In the “tklj’iug up” that takes place by all enterprising and public spirited citizens along streets and on private grounds, country residents should bear in mind that there is another spot in which many of them have a tender in terest that is usually in great need of their attention and efforts, writes a correspondent of the Farm Progress. This is the little rural cemetery. Very rarely nowadays is it in con nection with church or chapel, and this tends to its gi’eater isolation and neglect, so that in most cases, as ob served from passing railroad trains, trollej’s and wagon roads, the observer is depressed by the forgotten, forlorn and dismal aspect it presents, v.ith long grass and vreed stalks covering the mounds and washing clay or gravel obliterating the walks and drives. Fortunately such burial places are no longer very frequent in thickly populated districts. There is no reason why the rural cemetery should not, on a less exten sive and pretentious scale than that adopted by the city cemetery, manifest the same remembrance and taste in its appointments and be made a beauty spot instead of a blot on the land scape. Some warden or committee should have the matter in charge with a small fund to draw upon for labor and required materials for keeping the inclosing fences and gates in repair, the trees neatly trimmed and the walks and drives well defined and clear of weeds. Owners of lots should attend to the matter of keeping curbings and head stones in place, the grass neatly clip ped and flowers cared for. It would then be a comfort to mourners and a pleasure to others to visit it frequently, and the thought of being laid to rest under the shade of beautiful trees in whose boughs birds would nest and sing with the summer air perfumed by flowers interspersed among the me morial marbles would not seem repel- lant to the most sensitive natures. To avoid the sense of loneliness which one or two might feel in work ing here by themselves, an arrange ment might be made by which repre sentatives, both men and women, from the different families interested could go out together upon certain days of spring and summer and put their re spective lots in order and also those that had no one to care for them. As an entire day two or three times dur ing the season would not be too long for the work required, arrangements might be made for a (piiet dinner either within the grounds or on some adjacent spot and neighborly sociabil ity be thereby promoted. By some such plan a great and most desirable transformation might be ef fected in all our rural burial places. THE BACK YARD. Gentle Laxative And Appetizer Chamberlain’s Cougli Remedy Cures Colds, crcup and Whooping Cough. Suggestions For Making It Attractive and Not an Eyesore. This is an important subject. A visit to a farm in almost any state will emphasize its importance. A de scription of a typical back yard is hardiy necessarj% writes a correspond ent of Kimbairs Dairy Farmer. All that you need to do is to go to your neighbor’s and see his. Yours, of course, is clean. Instead of having chicken coops, wood piles, cesspools and rubbish heaps around the kitchen door, why not have a nice, clean turf? I know it is difficult to get grass to grow in places that are so much worn by the necessary travel in the vicinity of the back door, but by providing an abundance of walk it seems to me that the travel might be confined to a limited territory, so that it would not be impossible to have a good sod here. This should be well cared for. It should be kept free from litter, and the grass should be mown as regularly as in the front yard. If it becomes tall the wet grass is disagreeable to the housewife. On wash days it is preferable to hang the clothes over a well sodded tract than over one which is bare. In case the line should break less damage would be done. This and the comfort of hanging out the clothes both demon strate the value of a sodded back yard. In a rainy season such a yard keeps the kitchen much neater than one I which is nothing but bare ground. Of course stuff will accumulate, and some place must be found for it, but , there is no reason for saving a lot of I old rubbish. Burn it up as fast as it accumulates, and then see that the Wi^h w’ater and slops from the kitch- eai are carried away and destroyed. As for the wood, that should be piled under shelter in order that it may be protected from summer rains. The chips are no good so. long as they are in the yard. If you are to use them they must be put where you can bum them in the kitchen stove. Churches In Town Cleaning Scheme. The churches at Jasonville, Ind., re cently started a movement to‘clean the city, says a Jasonville special dispatch to the Chicago Record-Herald. Each householder was fdven a placard read ing, “My Yard and Alley Are'Clean, Are Yours?” Boys will be paid to ool- loct garbacre. The French gardener, who has to carrj^ water in pails to remote parts of the garden, has an Ingenious device for easing his task. He fastens the handles of his tw’o pails to a barrel hoop. Standing in the circle of this, he has no fear of either pail striking him as he walks. An Unpardonable Intrusion. # £ The Colonel—Coiifound him! The first nibble I have had today, and the idiot must needs frighten every fish in the river.—Black and White. Those who have stomach trouble, no matter how slight, should "ive every possible help to the digestive organs, so that the food may be digested with the least effort. This may be done by taking? somethinj^ that con tains natural dij^estive properties— somethin" like Kodol For Indiges tion and Dyspej)sia. Kodol is a pre paration of vegetable acids and con tains the very same juices f<iund in a liealthy stonmch. It digests what you eat. Sold by Brevard Drug Co. Brevard Drug Co.’s Unusual Offer. “It isn’t often that we have faith enough in the medicine put up by other people to be willing to ofl'er to refund the money ifit does not cure,’’ said T. B. Allison to a Xews man who dropi)ed into his store, “but we are glad to sell Dr. Howard’s specific for the cure of constipation and dyspepsia on that basis. “The Dr. Howard Company, in order to get a quick introductory sale, authorizes us to sell their regu lar fifty cent bottles at half-price, 25 cents, and, although we have sold a lot of it, and have guaranteed every package, not one has been brought back as unsatisfactory. “One great advantage of this spe cific,” he continued, “is its small dose and convenient form. There are sixty doses in a yial that can be carried in the vest pocket or purse, and every one has more medicinal power than a big pill or tablet or a tumbler of mineral water. “We are still selling the specific at half price, although we cannot tell how long we shall be able to do so, and anyone who is subject to consti pation, sick headache, dizziness, liver trouble, indigestion, or a general played-out condition, ought to take advantage of this chance. jul-26 Our New Furniture Store ARTHUR KILPATRICK, Manager ' ' IS NOW OPEN AND WE ARE READY TO SELL YOU All Kinds Furniture We carry Furnitnre of all kinds and grades Mattings, Rugs, Mattresses, Hammocks, Singer Machinns, Organs and Pianos.
