McElroy, pastor of the : Rutherfordton Presbyterian church, 1 returned thanks. Nearly forty mem | bers of the County Club and Medica 1 Society were present. A very apetiz ing luncheon was by the members of the Woman's Missionary I Society, of the First Baptist church. Mr. R. E. Price made an announce ! ment regarding the Armistice Day ! celebration, which will be held in (Rutherfordton on November 11th. j He asked the support of the Socie ' ties represented, both as clubs and las individuals, in making the cele bration a success. On motion of | Mr. David Lindsay, the clubs went ;on record as moral supportei's of (the celebration. j j Mr. O. J. Hoiier was called upon ; to give a report of the trip last j month to Greeneville, Tenn., which j was sponsored by the club, at which j time more than 200 farmers and j their families spent a day in Greene j county, on a tour of inspection of J farms and dairies. Mr. Holler gave; a clear and forceful description of the tour, and what it might ultimate ly mean to this county. The program was given in charge ; of Dr. W. C. Bostic, Sr. president of! the Rutherford County Medical ciety, who presented several new j members of the profession, who are now visiting in the county, or have • recently come into the county, in- j eluding Dr. James Ayers and Dr. | Charles Padgett, both of Forest j City. Dr. W. C. Bostic, Jr., present- j ed the speaker of the day, Dr. G j Oran Moore, of Charlotte. I After a few r preliminary remarks, ! Dr. Owen announced that instead of talking on some technical subject, he would speak on "Some Outstand ing Men of Medical History." For an hour or more he outlined, in a * brilliant, forceful manner, the high spots in Dr. Marion Simms' life. Dr. Simms, who was born and reared in Lancaster, S. C., perhaps achieved a j reputation in surgery that is un equalled in modern times. His strug gles, failures and eventual success was portrayed by a master hand in the speech of Dr. Moore. Due to lack of time the speaker touched briefly on the career of several oth er noted doctors, among them being Dr. Carroll and Dr. Reed and others. METHODIST W. M. U. Paul A. j Boriack, of Rutherfordton, announces | the following schedule of church ser vices at the Spindale Lutheran church: Schedule of services: 10:00 a. m., Sunday school; 11:00 a. m., Divine services. Should any of us receive an in vitation to the London Conference |of the World Powers or should ! Hoover ask us to attend one of the ! meetings of Congress with him we i j would consider this one of the great ! est invitations of our lives. Yet there I is one invitation that is greater than any of these would be. The greatest invitation of the world is: "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." (Matt. 11, 28). Jesus asks I everyone who labors under the bur- I den of sin and guilt to come to Him. | Through the power of His Word He i cleanseth land purifies every sclul. iHe Himself took the load of those that are heavy laden upon His own shoulders when He went the way of the Cross. And now He offers the ! heavenly rest to all that will come to Him. Through His Word He off | ers all forgiveness of their sins, the ; peace of God that passeth all un | derstanding, freedom from the pow j er of the devil, and rest from the i fear of death and the Judgment, j Next Sunday, September 27th, the ; text to be discussed will be: Matt 8, ' 23-27. The disciples of Jesus had en i trusted themselves entirely to the 'care of the Savior. Yet they had to face grave troubles. At times a Christian feels that he, too, is for saken by God. He is a child of „God and expects that God will take care; of Him. And at some time or other ; something will befall him that seems to indicate God is not concerned about him at all. Why do such ex periences befall the children of God? ; The sermon next Sunday will bring the answer.
