C., Sept. 21. j The Bureau of the Census announces ' that, according to the returns re j ceived, there were 14,573 marriages performed in North Carolina during the year 1930, as compared with 18,- 746 in 1929, representing a decrease of 4,173 or 22.3 per cent. In 1922 there were 22,2G7 marriage per | formed. During the year 1930, there were 1,536 divorces granted in the State, as compared with 1,707 in 1929, .representing a decrease of 171, or !10 per cent. In 1922, there were ! 1,317 divorces granted. There were 27 marriages annulled in 1930, as compared with 28 in 1929. The estimated population of the State of North Carolina on July 1, 1930, was 3,185,000 and on July, L i 1929, 3,125,556. On the basis of those estimates the number of mar riages per 1,000 of the population | was 4.6 in 1930 as against 6 in 1929, and the number of diverces per 1,000 of the population was 0.48 in 1930 as against 0.55 in 1929. The figures for 1930 are prelim inary and subject to correction. The largest number of marriages for the year 1930 was 448 in Buncombe county, with 577 in 1929. Clay coun ty reports the lowest number of marriages, 17 in 1930, and 25 in 1929. Seventy-three obtained license in Rutherford County in 1930 with 113 the previous year. Buncombe had 114 divorces in 1930 to 113 for 1929. Rutherford county dissolved the un ion of 11 couples in 1930 compared to 20 in 1929.
