He is a popular and clever gentlej- man and his friends in Alamance irrespective of politics, hope he will be able to land the plum. ; John Baldwin, colored, whb went to a hospital in Raleigh three weeks ago for an operation on his right eye, returned Tues day. Pie had suffered great pain with it and it was thought the eye would have to be removed. Since the operation, the pain is gone and the Dr. told him he would be able to see out of the eye again. , As&eboro Courier- On last Friday W. J. Miller found among a lot of wood in thfe cellar of his store, a possum, which had taken up v/inter quar ters. It is a mystery where Mr. Possum came from, but it is be lieved that he came up the branch from the creek in the northern part of town. The Board of Commissioners for town of Asheboro at the re gular monthly meeting on last Thursday night unanimously vot^ ed for a bond issue of $50,000 for sewerage for the town of Ashe boro. The action of the board meets with hearty approval of the people. It is not believed that it will be necessary to use more than half that amount of bonds now.
