Mr. Buchanan, propriter of qur 5, 10 and 25 cents store, reports that tlie Southern Syndicate or better known as the Associated 5-10 & 25 cent Stores, met with great success at the 3rd annual meeting in New York, City, from Sept. 1 1;d 5th. Mr, Buc.hanan, says we placed ordei's with the different Mfgrs for 325 stores and that the orders for dolls and toys alone amounted to Six hundred thousand ($600,000. 00) dollars. This is the reason j that the 5, 10 and 25 rnmr.fv s-or;' j can offer such great vj hies. The j Manufactor would nut consider f one order, but \vhen you say 325 i orders, and that they total up : ($600„b00.00) dollai s, they all want in the order, this puts us on the bottom floor, the prices, that we obtain by Associated buying permits .the selling of merchand ise sold in the general stores at from 25 cents to 50 cents for 10 cents to 25 cents. Mr. Buchanan is arranging for his annual sale, '/merchandise coming in one most every train, he hopes to have every thing on sale by the first of next week, why not come and s=p3nd a little time c-eeing the new things. Announcement. Thereby announce myself on ; independent candidate for Re-^ gister of Deed# for Alamance: County upon the , following re form platforrn, viz, that each county officer s^haI! be limited to two terms, and immediately after his election shall be required to make, affidavit that all persons who Jsupported him with their ballots, or other wise did so volun- tgiily without reward or hope of reward from any source what- ever* J. A. W, Thompson. Explanation. Some four or five years ago a | prominent speaker in this county | speaking along the line of needed reforms,' declared before a large andience in Sunday-school con vention assembled, that there vvere one thousand voters in Alamance, County wno had been bought by the two political par ties and that the price paid was from one to twenty dollars each. As the'statement has never been contradicted, i consider it an | awful State of political corruption j to.ex 1st in the county where civil 1 liberty was born. The best men in both political parties freely admit that this dangerous element in the body politic should if possible be eliminated. In regard to shorter terms of ofPice, I contend that Uniting the county officers to two terms such would eleminate the possibility of greed; would save to each of ficer hi.s salary and prevent that peculiar diseses of officer hold ing from becoming chronic. Besides it would give an equal opportunity to worthy men all over the county. i have never been before th.' citiKens of Alamance asking fo. anything,, but being an inue- depe.'it voter I take this oppor- rune time lo try to help briiii; ;.u.,j(!t tills., much needed reform. iL'is needed more than I need tiie office, for I can easily hve wiiii- C'Ut office.
