Under the jury’s findings to- will be held for a preliminary hearing in a magistrate’s court. One of the witnesses today tes tified that McAfee and Martin Bur- »ett quarreled in church yesterday afternoon, and that after the services McAfee waited outside for the Burnett brother?, the fight ensuing when they met. ' Prbtmbly the iiiost sensational- of S' • • ' . the features dealth with in the report is the alleged traffic in babies. It is asserled that investigators ioond there are institutions in Baltimore which the mother of an illegitimate child may consign her bffsjsinK upon the payment of an agreed sum and fbrsever rid her.«!elf of legal responsi bility for it. Of the hiindreds of children so taken in charge by the institutibna the comniission avers that eighty to ninety per cent, die and ai'e buried in heaps in smaU plots of ground, one such plot approximately 55 feet square having been the tomb of five thousand babies since 1886. The high death rate is attributed to the separation of the infant from its mother at birth. No evidence was adduced that the babies were ncg- lected at the institutions. PITHY PARAGRAPHS It's aU right to make your mark in the world, but . don't do it by mak ing a mark of some other fellow. Experienca is the best teacher, which would seem ta prove that the best isn't always the cheapest. The industry of some people seems to consist largely of, finding some thing for other people to do. We never get much comfort from the thought that the dsvii has a w-arm spot in his heart for \is. A married man should never try to keep anything from his wife, un less he keeps it in a safe deposit vault. Lots of men have been, on the high tide of prosperity, only to be strand ed at low water. No fellow can expect to win a girl by giving the impression that she is being raffied off. "When the right man and the right opportunity get together, the world ijegins to prate of luck. VI When disturbing influences cause unsettled conditions in business, the invest or s mind naturally turns to the most non-fluctuating and time tried investment-- namely: Real Estate, First Mortgage Loans. We have at this time ten to fifteen thousand dollars worth of Frist Mortgage* Real Estate Bonds in denominations of $100, $150, $250, $300, $400, $500, and $1,000. These bonds are amply secured by Real Estate and fully guaranteed by our Company, and will net you six per cent interest which we pay semi-annually. The investor who is content with less than six per cent interest is depriving hi . of what is rightfully his own. \ mh M Burlington, North Carolina W. W. BROWN. Manager,
