There were from geyenty- flve to one hundred persons present, but not a Mul paid any more attani' tion to him that if he had been a post. Not one hand was extended to him in kindly greeting; not one broth erly word was spoken. He left the church as much of a stranger as he entered it. This was un-Christian, gave the stranger a bad impression of the church. He has attended that snjne church frequently since then, and aftsr forcing himself on the brethren found them very pleasstnt people. Is this case unusunl? Are any other churches in North Caro lina guilty cf the same oifense? If this young man had not been too big to take oifense he would probably never have darkened the door again. It is not much trouble to speak to a stranger, and nobody knows how niuch it may mean. Our churches should cultivate the spirit of hospi tality. A hand-shake from the pas tor is not enough. Many good peo ple as hospitable and warm-hearted at their homes as they can. be are as cold as a atone at the church. Right nt this point the Seminary might put in some i?ood work. The young preachers should be taught the impor tance of traininfr their people in the grace of church hospitality. Many of 0111- churches hiive iost immensely by uiviiiff ths colli .'ihouldcr to .strangers v.'itliiii their >f!!te;i. The ehun-h i.s one place where forma! introduction.s are not ncce.ssarj'. It is a duty that lieionK-s to nil and it is more becoming and more hiffhly appreciated in people who are not considered “prominent” in the atfairs of the church.
