The News is the peoples' paper, and its columns are always open for discussion upon matters pertaining to the welfare of the city. It believes that calm discussion of all topics of public interest, always results bene ficially. The people are always want-; ing light, and there is nothing like the columns of a newspaper for fur nishing light The bond question Is now before the people, and "Citizens" asks some questions which will no doubt be answered to their satisfac tion. Bonds or Ho Bonds. To the editor of The News: I shall be glad if you will grant spuce in The Daily News to say a few words in regard to the bonds whose issuance is to be voted on in May. While som few understand the con ditions under which the voting will take place, it is doubtful if the mass of the people appreciate them. If the old registration governed in this eleetion I should have nothing to say. but this is not the case. A new reiristraUon is ordered, and those in favor of bonds will register, and are registering fast to give effect to their wishes ; and those who object to the bonds' must register also, or the bonds will be forced upon us. Most business men comprehend this, but mechanics' ' and laboring men, we fear, don't : and aa an increase of debt means an increase of taxes and idcreased rents, it would be the part of .wisdom in those classes to weign well the consequences involved in this bond question. The voting will take place on 12th May, but registra tion must be attended to by 1st May or tne chance will be gone, , ' CltflZEN. Chicago, Grain and Produce. Chicago, April 22, 1890.
