The rally began with an in troduction of the basketball team by Tom Winstead, then an in troduction of the Cheerleaders by Carol Holden, followed by several cheers. A follow-up of this student pep rally is in the making. On order will be a bonfire. 49’ers from the CC gold mines, torch light burning of an effigy, and plenty of singing, cheering, and dancing for aU. Fan Tabs Approximately twenty - five 49’er fans found their way to Laurinburg last Saturday week, December 1st, to see CC play its first game. Their sample of school spirit is great encourage ment to the team and the school I’m not sure who he was, but my hat is off to the 49’er who wore a Charlotte College sweat shirt to the Wingate game. Par ticipation such as his is exactly what the team needs .... Interesting facts include a count of 70 fans plus 8 cheer leaders cheering for Wingate here last December 5. Charlotte College, with a student body of over a thousand, ran up a count barely double the strength of the visitors. One outstanding fact about CC, they really go all out tu support the team! . . . Losing out in the final period against St. Andrews and Wingate after a hard fought game, the 49’ers took their firsttwolosses. The game with Davidson really proved what experience can do, for Davidson’s five took the lead throughout the entire game.. A called game which appeared from nowhere with Kings CoUege put the 49’ers in possession of their first victory. Taking the lead early in the game, the squad kept a good margin of points, only challenged once during the rest of the game. When gool old Friday rolls around, all that remains of a week of laughing, studying, and singing commuters is a mound of crumpled candy wrappers left on the floor of the jalopy. Some of these are usually swept out on Saturdays. CC Impresses Marine Corps By ANDRIA PRUTNICK The United States Marines have established a beachhead at Char lotte College. On December U, two lone recruiters. Captain. Marks and Staff Sgt. J. B. Wea ver, invaded these hallowed halls of learning with their posters, which heretofore have usually graced the sidewalks before the post office. A large percentage of boys responded to the miniature re cruiting office set up in the lobby. Captain Marks stated that they were impressed with the interest shown at Charlotte College. Students interested in careers as officers with the Marine Corps were interviewed and tested. The standard test consists of three parts -- English, mathematics, and mechanical comprehension, or “horse sense.” A student who enters this pro gram continues his college edu cation without any interruption, participating in summer training only. Upon graduation, he re ceives his college degree plus the rating of a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps.
