The Superior court convenes in Car thage Nov. 21)1 h. A marriage will soon be celebrated in the vicinity of West End. Thomas King of Carthage inspected the beauties of Pinehurst last Sunday. I). 11. Caddell Si Sons will soon remove their saw mill to the vicinity of .Park wood. Mr. says that Pompev is a favorite no longer. The trolley cars are now running. M. I). Mclver of our village, has been appointed town marshall of Carthage. Evil doers take notice. Key. W. 1J. Coppedge will preach at the Jackson Springs church next Sab bath, at 11 o'clock a. in. Sweet potatoes are now being dug at the village farm. Several specimens tip the scales at four pounds each. Supt. Kenbow is a very busy man these days, but he manages to look out for the comfort of every one in the village and h:is a pleasant word for all. The Casino restaurant is growing in popularity, and the excellent fare pro vided by the manager, Mrs. A. E. Upham, s winning many words of praise. The new town magistrate expresses his intention to strictly enforce the law against the use of bicycles on the side walks in the village. A word to the wise is sullicient. All communications to Tiik Outlook must be accompanied by the writer's name, not necessarily for publication but to insure good faith. Xo exception will be made to this rule. Remember the debate at the Pine l!idge school house tonight, and assist in settling the question, "Winch is the "lost damaging to the community, a prevaricator or a drunkard?" h'ev. Mr. JJansoni of Southern Pines preached a very interesting and instruct ive sermon last Sunday morning, from .John 7:17: "If any man will do His will, he shall know the doctrine, whether it, be of Ood, or whether I speak of my self." At the Pine Pidge Sunday school last Sabbath, Duncan lilack gave a talk to the members, in addition to the regular services. Immediately after the session of the Sunday school a praj'cr meeting was held in place of the regular prayer meeting at the Arbor. I Regular religious services are now be ing held in Pinehurst, and it is expected that a Union Sunday school will be formed Sunday, Xovember 2Sth. An nouncements for this, the Sunday even ing service, and mid-week prayer meet ing will be made later on. On Sunday morning the service at 11 o'clock in the Casino parlor will be in charge of Kev. Pufus B. Tobey of Bos ton. (Jen. II. 1$. Carrington of Boston will address the meeting; Subject: "The Bible mirror of man."" A cordial in vitation is extended to all to attend this service. The question under discussion at the meeting of the Pine Pidge Intellectual Improvement society last Friday even ing "Which is the most enjoyable, an ticipation or realization y" was settled favorable to anticipation. The subject at the next meeting will be: "Which is the most dangerous to the community, a prevaricator or a drunkard." A resident of the village who has been in this section somewhat more than a year partook of his lirst roast 'possum last Sunday, The animal was dressed in a scientilic manner by a colored expert, and roasted to a turn, and our estimable citizen informs us that he won't allow another year to pass without enjoying this toothsome Southern dish. PERSONAL MENTION. Mr. X. Packard of Pi nebluff enjoyed the sights in the village last Monday. J. 1). Fry, who lias been to the Fay etteville fair, returned home last Friday evening. Prof. A. C. Rhodes, superintendent of the Experimental Farm, was in the village last Sunday. Mrs. Fowler, wife of Stanley G. Fowl er, editor of S.A.L. Ndtjunili, was in town yesterday and paid a visit to the otlice of Tiik Outlook. Mrs. Martha Parkhurst of Mountain side, X. J., and her niece, Miss Edith Andrews of Atlantic City, X.. J., will make their winter home here. Miss Mabel T. Hall of Newton, Mass., who was a leader of equestrian parties in our village last winter, writes that she will arrive at the Holly Inn about the first of next month. Misses M. II. and E. M. Andrews of Poseville, Xewark, X. J. will occupy cot tage C on Elm road the coming winter. Mr. II. Helroyd, also of Xewark, has en gaged apartments in the same cottage. Capt. Allen V. Reed of Xew Canaan, Conn., writes to subscribe for The Out look, and states that lie and his family will soon occupy a cottage on Main street, which lie has rented for the season. Mrs. E. F. Adams and son of East Boston, Mass., who occupied a suite in "The Palmetto" last season, will again visit Pinehurst this winter and occupy a suite in the new "Marlborough'" on East Main street. Francis Deaton arrived home on Tues day from a trip to Hope Mills, where he is interested in a survey for a new rail road, which is intended to connect Hope Mills and Southern Pines, a distance of about 30 miles. Sarah D. Gilbert of Xew York City is occupying a suite of rooms in the "Pal metto. Miss Gilbert is a well-known artist and will no doubt reproduce on canvas some of the interesting and unique scenes in this vicinity, during her winter sojourn here. L. Stanley Redding and Fred Poole of West Medford, Mass., Frank E. Lindsey of Orange, Mass., . and E. 1. Ellis of South Boston, Mass., arrived in town l ist Sunday evening. They are members of the orchestra at the holly Inn, and will remain here during the season. Mrs. Sec ley 1). Sutton and child of Med ford, Mass., will spend the coining winter in our village. Mrs. Sutton lias made her winter residence here since the village was founded, and her regular re turn during the cold weather is a good testimonial of Pineliurst's advantages as a winter resort. Mr. W. W. Trickey of Jackson Falls, X. II., arrived yesterday, and the Pine Grove House is now open for boarders for the season of 1897-8. Mr. Trickey conducted the same house successfully during the past season and can be relied upon to give satisfactory service in every respect. Letter from General Carrington.
