Butterfield, with a delightful program arranged by Mrs. Helen Farnum. Mrs. John t). Chapman appeared the first time before a Pinehurst audience and sang delightfully. Mrs. Thaddeus A. Cheatham and Mrs. Charles M. Gray played, and Mrs. Reed Page, of PineBluff ; Mrs. Charles W. Picquet and Mrs. Farnum sang. Mr. Cheatham con tributed to the program with an original selection. The last of the series of musicales will be held at the residence of Mrs. Leonard Tufts next week and an unusually pleasing program will be pre sented under the direction of Mrs. Picquet. On Thursday last an all-day picnic at Lumbee River called forth a number of riders. Among them were Mrs. Douglas Barclay, Air. and Mrs. C. P. Day, Mr. Everett Rich and Miss Julia McGuire, while Mr. Barclay, Mr. Martin McVoy and Mrs. Sava Kehaya and Master Richard went over in the trap. 1 The Board of Governors of the Pinehurst Country Club met for dinner at the Club on Friday evening. Among those present were Messrs. Leonard Tufts, Donald J. Ross, C. L. Becker, T. B. Boyd, II . C. Fownes, P. W. Whittemore, Richard S. Tufts, H. W. Orms bee, W. E. Truesdell and H. H. Rackham. ' Mr. E. S. Mayo, of Boston, was the guest of Mr. George H. Lawrence, of Cambridge, at the Berkshire on Wednesday. Among those following the bridle paths during the week past wrere Mr. Douglas Barclay, Air. C. P. Day, Miss Josephine Watts, the Misses Winifred and Eleanor Croft, Mrs. DuBois, Mr. W. B. Ruthrauff, Miss Helen Waring, Mr. C. L. Bausher, Miss Helen Butterfield, Mr. H. H. Franklin, Mrs. H. M. Dingley, Mr. H. M. Riddle, Mr. H. W. Ostby, the Misses Emily and Frances Rockwood, Mr. Herman Gifford, Mr. A. M. Grant and Miss Jane Nolan. 0 On Tuesday next there will be a minstrel and musical revue at the new theatre for the benefit of the James McConnell Hospital fund. The program includes songs, jokes, operatic selections and dancing by the best talent in the community. The Pinehurst patron nesses are Mrs. H. G. Waring, Mrs. F. T. Keating, Mrs. William H. Cane and Airs. W. H. Nearing. 0 Mr. and Mrs. William Hart, of Williamstown, Mass., and Mr. and Mrs. Walter H. Cluett, of New York, who are spending the winter at the Ashley Cottage in Pinehurst, were luncheon guests at the Carolina on Friday. 0 Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Kilborne, of New York, entertained Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Pope at the Carolina on Friday. o Mrs. Charles F. Lancaster, of Boston, was hostess at dinner and bridge at the Carolina on Friday evening. Her guests were Mrs. Annie T. Watson and her guest, Mrs. William Scull, of Wayne, Pa. 0 At the Country Club on Friday, Mrs. Philip B. Stanley, of New Britain, Conn., and Mrs. Francis E. Stanley, of Newton, Mass., entertained a number of friends at luncheon and bridge. Mrs. Sarah Crawford, of Watkins, N. Y., entertained at tea at the Club on Wednesday for Mrs. Arthur Ramsey, of Washington, who is spending the winter at Southern Pines. 0 Mr. George N. Fry, of Oil City, Pa., entertained his fellow townsman, Mr. B. B. Case, at dinner at the Berkshire on Thursday.
