The spirit of the hunt is kept up by the drag-hunts now, the first of which was held on Friday and called out a number of enthusiastic riders. Among them were Mr. and Mrs. Charles P. Day,' Mr. J. M. Huber and Miss Gertrude Huber, Messrs. Beverly Walters, C. H. Brackebush and Walter Swoope and Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Gates. Mrs. Gates will be remembered by her many friends in' Pinehurst as Mrs. Evelyn Spencer, o Miss Mabel A. Strout, of Biddeford, Maine, gave a dainty birthday tea at the Country Club in. honor of Mrs. H. B. Emery. Mr. Strout, Mr. and Mrs. William C. Hart, of Wil liamstown, Mass., and Mr. Emery were the other guests. The popularity of the tea tables at the Country Club makes it impossible to do more than give a glance at those presiding behind the urn. Thomas, Ky. A very pretty bridge and tea was given at the Country Club on Saturday when Mrs. George N. Towle, of Boston, entertained in honor of Mrs. W. G. Soule, of Newton, Mass. Her guests were Mrs. C. L. Bausher, Mrs. Homer H. Johnson, Mrs. W. B. Merrill, Miss Mary Lord, Mrs. T. T. Watson, Mrs. William C. Conant, Mrs. William Smithers, Mrs. William T. Barr, Mrs. Parker W. Whittemore, Mrs. George M. Howard, Miss Lydia Wright, Mrs. A. S. Gilman, Mrs. J. D. C. Rumsey, Mrs. Robert Stewart, Mrs. William Homer, Mme. Spring, Mrs. Bartholomew and a number of others who joined the party for tea. The bridge prizes were beautifully embroidered card table covers and were won by Mrs. Soule, Mrs. Howard, Miss Wright and Mrs. Barr. 1
