TO DECORATE COMMUNI
TY TREE MONDAY

The CommunityChristmasTree will
be decorated Monday, and the ex
ercises and distribution of presents
will occur Monday evening. The
tree will be at the lower end of Main
Street, near the memorial fountain,
and will be lighted by the Dillsboro
and Sylva Electric Company, free of
charge.
A meeting was held at the
Baptist church, Monday evening, and
Dan Tompkins was elected chairman
of the central committee, and com
mittees appointed as follows :
To get the tree, Harry Buchanan,
Cordell Russell, I. H. Powell and Dr^

To buy the presents: L. C. Hall,
Mrs. E. L. Wilson, Miss Lucy Luck,

DILLSBORO TO HAVE
COMMUNITY TREE
The annual Community Christmas
Tree at Dillsboro will be held in the
school auditoiium there, Monday
evening. The Dillsboro people have
been holding a community tree each
Christmas for a number of years, the
Methodist and Baptist churches join
ing in the movement and holding a
joint tree.

DIES OF BURNS
Thad Smith, Jr., the 14 year-old
son, of Mr. ami Mrs. Thad D. Smith
was burned to ~3eath, in* Florence,
Alabama, where his parents arc tern
poraily residing, Monday.

occurence have reached us.
The funeral was held at Balsam,

young son are all well-known in Sylv* .
and Jackson County.
For several months they have been
living in Florence, where Mr. Smith ?
is engaged in his profession of civil
engineer.

Bales as Post Commander, at the
meeting held, Monday evening, to
succeed Cordell Russell. A vote of
thanks for his excellent service as
commander during the past year
