Nbw York, Spt. 6 -A funny in cldeat happened lest night at the performance of " Wang," at the Broadway Theatre. A young man seized the shoulders of a girl sitting in front of him and shook her very harshly. The girl screamed and an usher came to her help. The young man seemed unconscious of his sur round ings. Finally he pulled him self together sufficiently to say : "I Deg the lady's pardon. I did not Know what 1 was doing. I dream ed I was savins a hild from drown ing, and that I was pulling it out of tue water." This apology was delivered with such a truthful accent that the shaken woman's escort felt obliged to believe it, and the intervention of an usher, who had drawn near, was not needed. What It Does. THE BORDEN MURDER. Nbw York, Sept. 6. Dr. John H. Abbott, of Fall River, Mass., knew something about the condition of the bodies of Mr. and Mrs. Borden when found, but as he went West before any suspicion vas directed toward Miss Lizzie, he expressed no opinion at the time. Now he says he saw the bodies and both were warm. There was not the slightest indication, he says, that one of the murdered per sons had been dead over an hour be fore the other. It is bis opinion that Mr, Borden was killed and Mrs. Bor den was followed up stairs by the murderer and stricken down as she was running to the window to call for assistance. In a museum of curiosities at Salem, Mass., there is preserved a common cherry seed or stone, hollowed and fashioned like a basket Within the basket are twelve tin silver spoons, the shape and finish of which cannot be distinguished with the naked eye. Dr. Peter Oliver, who lived in Eng land daring the early part cf the eighteenth century, tells of seeing a carved cherry stone which would be a wonder even in this age of fiDe tools and fine workmanship. The stone was one from a common cherry and upon it were carved the heads of 194 popes, kings, queens, emperors, saints, etc. : The gentleman who brought this little wonder to England purchased it in Prussia, allowing the original owner 5000 for his treasure. Think of it; $25,000 for a cherry seed I HOME HAS THE FIRST CLAIM. The first thought of a wife or a mother should be her home; all things, no matter how important, are secondary to that.
