They attended the graduation of Chuck Gupton, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Wiggins and Mrs. Fuller. Mrs. Martha Draffin has returned from a visit with her daughter, Mrs. Walter Noneman in Edenton. Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Banks of Chamblee, Ga., visited for several days last week with Mrs. J. T. Walker and Miss Minnie Harris. Mr. and Mrs. Rick P. Proper and son, Presley, of Asheboro stayed with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Watson, for several days last week. Mr. and Mrs. George Melvin and Peggy of Ashland. Ky., visited with Mrs. Maggie Adcock last Thursday. Mrs. Ora Moore has returned to her home after a trip which included visits to her brother, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Harton of Charlotte, to her sister, Mrs. BettyRamsey of Charlotte and to the Rev. W. C. Baughman and family of Asheboro. Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland Davis of Norlina celebrated their first anniversary on June 5 at the Davis home. Makes Dean's List 3rd Time Mrs. Marie Aycock Southerland of Wilson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David D. Aycock of Norlina, has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Atlantic Christian College in Wilson. Students making the dean's list were required to earn a 3.2 average on a 4.0 scale on at least 12 semester hours of study. This is the third time that Mrs. Souther and has been so honored, the will receive her B. A. degree in Education in July. Her placement <yi the dean's list was denounced by Zeb M. Whitehurst, II, dean of students at Atlantic Christian. Geographic Center When Alaska and Hawaii became states, the geographic center of the U. S. was changed from Kansas to South Dakota where it is located 17 miles west of Castle Rock. Spain ranks next to Italy in the production of olive oil. Senior Social Club Holds Meeting At Methodist Church The Norlina Senior Social Club met Thursday at the Norlina United Methodist Church. Fifty-seven members and guests were present. After a few brief remarks, Mrs. Joyce Mabry, club president, introduced the Rev. Jim Hebel of the Zion-Jerusalem Church. The Rev. Mr. Hebel gave a devotional on "Parental love that can't be repaid, but can be passed on." A brief business session included the recognition of the birthday celebrants, the reading of letters of appreciation to Senators Jesse Helms and Robert Morgan, the discussion of future trips, and the plans for the next meeting, which will be Thursday, June 23, at Gardner's Baptist Church at 12 p. m. This meeting will be a covered dish lunch. The program began with a concert by the Club Band, the same concert they presented at Senior Citizen's Day in Henderson, at the National Guard Armory, on Wednesday, May 25, to an audience of nearly 500. A slide presentation of the Norlina Senior Citizen's trip to Norfolk's Garden-By-TheSea, the Willoughby-Baylor, and Moses Myers' homes, and Douglas MacArthur's Memorial were shown. It was followed by a slide tour of Washington, D. C., including slide and motion picture film of the Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale Inauguration on January 20, 1977. Refreshments were served by the ladies of the Norlina United Methodist Church. Mrs.-ElleiLMQseley was given a rose, a token gift for her hours of work to fill the bus for the Washington, D. C. trip. Overby Announces Precinct Members James A. Overby. Democratic chairman of the Smith Creek Precinct, announced this week the selection of the five additional Precinct Committee members. They are Clyde Edwards, Mrs. Rosa Russell, Mrs. Lou Traylor, Alfred Coleman, and Ronald Hargrove. This fulfills the requirement of ten committee members for the Smith Creek Precinct. MRS. ROBERT A. GLICK Columbia Couple Announce Marriage Faye B. Oyer and Robert A. Glick of Columbia, Md., announce their marriage on Sunday, May 22. The ceremony was performed on the grounds of The King's Contrivance restaurant in Columbia by the Rev. Clark Olsen, minister of the Morristown (New Jersey) Unitarian Fellowship. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Kathryn Bailey of Virginia Beach, Va., and the granddaughter of Mrs. Lottie Nance of Norlina. Mr. Glick is the son of Mrs. Florence Weisk of Tamarac, Fla. and William Glick of Miami Beach, Fla. Mrs. Glick, who attended Norlina High School, graduated magna cum laude with a B. A. in Arts Management from the University of Maryland. He is employed by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra as Assistant to the General Manager. She has two children, Kim and Earl, by a previous marriage. Mr. Glick graduated from Brooklyn College and holds a Ph. D. in Comparative Literature from Indiana University. He teaches English and European Literature at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Club Meets At Norlina Clubhouse The Norlina Woman'* Club met at the Clubhouae on Wedneaday, June 1, with Mrs. Blanche Walker, Miaa Minnie Harris, Mra. Hyla Stultz and Mrs. Alice Stults serving as hostesses. Mrs. L. O. Robertson, president, presided throughout the evening. Mrs. L. C. Davis led in the devotional opening from Psalms. Mrs. Eleanor Hayes, conservation chairman, reminded the members to bring old newspapers to the clubhouse on June 22 at 11 a. m. for the paper drive. The club also voted, during the business session, to paint the inside of their clubhouse. Mrs. Tilly Daeke, public affairs chairman, introduced Mrs. Anne Davis, clerk of court for Warren County, who gave a presentation and led in a question-and-answer period on the importance of wills. Refreshments were served to the members and guest at the meeting's close. Club To Sponsor Paper Drive The Norlina Woman's Club will sponsor a paper drive through June 22. The club requests that only newspapers be donated and that they must be bundled. Papers may be stacked under the stew shed at the Norlina Woman's Clubhouse on June 22 by 11 a. m. or carried to Robertson's Tax Service and Realty and stacked against the back of the building by June 22 at 11 a. m. Kindergarten To Have Graduation The Northside Elementary School will have graduation exercises for its Kindergarten classes on Friday, June 10, at 9:30 a. m. All the parents are invited and encouraged to be present, as their young graduates present a program of music and recitation for them. Phyllis Jefferson, a 1976 graduate of Norllna High, is shown with the trophy she won for grabbing top honors in the freshman talent show held at North Carolina Central University recently. She sang two songs during the competition, "The Good Morning Heartache" and "No Plans For The Future." She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Queen Jefferson of Norlina. Norlina Circles Meet Monday, June 6, was meeting day for the circles of the Norlina United Methodist Women. Circle No. 1 met with Mrs. R. F. Brickhouse. Mrs. Gladys Norwood opened with devotion. The program carried the theme "Global Ministry" and "Ministry in the World We Live In" was the emphasis of the study presented by Mrs. Etta Strange, Mrs. Ruth Knight and Mrs. Susie Fawcett. Mrs. Lela Delbridge conducted the business portion of the meeting. Circle No. 2 met for a covered dish supper at the church with the husbands as special guests. Jim Hundley returned thanks for the meal and Mrs. W. S. Hicks presided over the brief business session. An evening of good fellowship was enjoyed by the 35 in attendance. Mrs. Jack Hawks was hostess to Circle No. 2 represented by nine members. Mrs. Clint Hege presented a cassette program of Bishop William F. Folwell speaking on the "churches unique offering" and "the Abundant Life." The group sang together the hymn bearing the same theme "Jesus Be Formed in Me." Special prayer for To Attend Chowan Stanley Craig Kearney of Warrenton and a senior at John Graham High School has been accepted by Chowan College for admission for the fall semester. Stanley plans to enroll in the pre-education curriculum which leads to the B.S. degree and teacher certification. people on the mission field was led by Mrs. Fred Newsome as the benediction. Warren Plaza News By CHUCK SIMMONS A troop of residents and a trip to Pleasant Hill Rest Home in Roanoke Rapids began the week for the residents of Warren Plaza Rest Home. They visited friends and spent the afternoon watching movies. The lawn work has continued at Warren Plaza, with good participation from some Interested and hard-working male residents, Alfonza Bunn, Hugh Phillips, Rudolph Lamm and Oscar Harris. Warren Plaza would like to welcome Mrs. Lois G. Journigan to the Rest Home. The residents and employees will miss and kindly remember Eugene W. Perry of Edenton. Friday night at the movies was an unusual one. An old classic silent movie, "Foolish Wives," was shown. The movie was a treat for many of the older residents who remember the silent movies. The residents of Warren Plaza always look forward to the visits they have from their families and friends in the community and churches. If you have missed lately, come see us!
