Conducts Meet

The Oine 4-H Club held its
monthly meeting August 30,
at the Oine Community
Center. Arvella Downey
presided over the meeting.
The devotion. Pledge of
Allegience, prayer, and
song was led by Mary
Harrison
A report was given by
Percel Harrison, Jr., on his
trip to camp A member of
the Oine Specialist reported
on their trip to the district
meeting and N. C. 4-H
Congress and how much
they enjoyed it. The 4-H'ers
also took a trip to King's
Dominion that everyone
enjoyed
Members discussed in
detail their project books.
They were also reminded by
their leaders to continue
their beautification project.

To Work Locally
Miss Lynn Maynard,*
daughter of Mr and Mrs.
Earl Maynard of Warrenton,
was among seven students
graduating from the
American Medical Technology
School through
Maria Parham Hospital on
August 31. The graduation
was held at the Henderson
Country Club with a banquet
given in their honor.
Dr. H. M. Jones presented
the diplomas and Lorene
Hendrick pinned the graduates.
Miss Maynard is a
graduate of Warren Academy
and received an A S.
degree from Louisburg.
She has accepted a
position with Warren General
Hospital.
Fish Fry Scheduled
The Haliwa Tribal Center
is having a fish fry, with
chicken on the side, on Sept.
10, at 6 p. m. A small
donation will be required of
$2 per plate.

Jaycees Plan Derby
The Henderson Jaycees
have scheduled a Striped
Bass (Rockfish) Derby for
the weekend of September
24 and 25 at Kerr Lake.
Prizes in the tournament
will be given in two
categories, Total Poundage
and Big Fish.
In the Total Poundage
category, cash prizes will be
given to the three fishermen
catching the greatest total
weight of five striped bass
with each individual fish
weighing 15 pounds or more.
Fish weighing less than 15
pounds will not be included
in the total weight.
In the Big Fish category,
there will be cash prizes
given to the fishermen
catching the largest striped
bass. Fishermen may enter
both categories (Total
Poundage and Big Fish) but
only one prize per fisherman
in the Big Fish category will
be allowed.
The fishermen will win a
pre-dptermined percentage
of r< >' ticket sales with all
tourn jiient proceeds going

stations at Tar Heel Marina
on Satterwhite Point and at
Clarksville Marine at
Clarksville, Va. These
weigh stations will be open
all night for night fishermen.

Gambling Charges
Heard Against 5
Five defendants appeared
in a mixed session of
Warren County District
Court on Friday to answer
charges of gambling. Judge
Charles W. Wilkinson of
Oxford presided over the
session.
Bobby Gene Alexander,
John Edward Davis, Robert
Branch, Moses Levister and
William Shaw each entered
pleas of not guilty. All were
found guilty of gambling
and given a jail sentence of
60 days, suspended for one
year on the condition that
they not be found guilty of
gambling during the suspended
period and pay
fines of $35 and court costs.
The court also ruled that
the money confiscated at the
time of the arrests be turned
over to the Sheriff for the
Law Enforcement Officer's
Undercover Fund except for
$100 which was to be turned
over to Moses Levister.
Alexander, Davis and
Branch gave notices of
appeal to the next criminal
session of Superior Court
and later dropped the
appeal, wishing to comply
with the judgment.
Moses Levister appealed
his case to the Superior
Court with bond to remain in
effect.
William Shaw's attorney
was granted a motion to
dismiss a case of escape and
the case was dismissed.
Mary Alston of Warren
County was granted voluntary
dismissal for using
profane language.
Leroy Broadnax of Henrico,
Va., entered a plea of
driving under the influence
of intoxicants and prayer for
judgment was continued for
30 days. A voluntary
dismissal was granted on
speeding 69 in 55 mph zone.
William Bullock, assault
with deadly weapon, \oluntary
dismissal.
John Louis Coleman,
Warren County, no operator's
license, driving under
influence of intoxicants,
pled guilty to careless and
reckless driving and no
operator's license, ordered
to jail for six months,
suspended for one year on
the condition that he pay
fine of $125 and court costs.
Robert Sullivan Crews,
Warren County, improper
passing, fined $10 and court
costs.
Ethel Davis, Warren
County, trespass, called and
failed. Ordered arrested for
appearance on Sept. 23 with
bond set at $200.
Bobby Alphonso Dunston,
Vance County, nonsupport,
voluntary dismissal.
Martha Harrington, Warren
County, larceny, ordered
to quarters for women
prisoners for six months,
suspended for one year on
the condition that she not go
