Although lacking the. individual star that was present in former NCAA champion Harvie Ward last year, the team has proven to be deeper than last year's squad. The depth has been evident in the fact that coach Erickson has: changed his first twosome around at least three times in the six meets. It has not been the rule for each day's medalist to be play ing out of the number cne position either. The Tar Heel victories have seen Lou Brown, Frank Brooks, I see Lou Brown, Frank Brooks, j Rodney McKnight, and Bill Wil-r liamson in the position of meda list, with McKnight copping the ! honor three times. In today's meet Coach Erick son will probably string along with his usual top six men Mc Knight, Williamson, Brooks, Brown. Bob Black, and Frank Eckcrt. This has been his most effective combination, although both Jimmy Ferree and R. L. MacDonald have been pushing for a place in the select six. McKnighA and Black win play together as usual with Williamson and Brooks, and Brown and Eck ert also playing their same two somes. The victory in the Intercollegi ate North-South tourney on Tues day is indicative of the team's standing in Southern Conference circles. Also playing in the meet was last year's SC team winner, Wake Forest, but this time the Deacons were in second place three strokes behind the Tar Heels.
