Good luck. rvey HIT -Cold Blood THEOLOGiCALU, WE'RE OFF THE HOOK: - The North Symphony will concert Sunday at Memorial Hall Su "professionals" because they are highly trained musicians performing full time and on salary. (Although actually founded in 1932 by the late composer Lamar Stringfield, the Symphony did not engage in extensive touring with professional musicians until 14 years later.) Every year for six and a half months North Carolina becomes "home" to the 60 men and women who gather to perform under the direction of the Symphony's well known director, Benjamin Swalin. Many travel great distances to do so. For the second straight season, three have come from Guatemala, C. A., and two from Canada. Among the the other players, 24 states are represented, as well as Korea and Japan. During the months that the North Carolina Symphony is not on " tour, the orchestra disbands, and employment takes several forms. Many of the musicians teach during the off-season months, others join touring music shows and participate in summer music camps. The 1969-70 orchestra is a young one. The average age is 32, with ages ranging from 21 to 72. Over half the musicians are in their twenties. Vince Simonetti, tuba player now in his third season with the North Carolina Symphony, is a typical member of the 1969-70 orchestra. He is under 30, talented, well educated and has played with numerous well known professionals. A native of New Jersey, CZITTT"- " wii'J wl in" irr -- I ' ft,- .v: " j .4. ..
