The Tar Heel Thursday, June 18, 19875 More volunteers needed to work for '87 Festival By SUSANA DANCY Staff Writer Many good volunteer positions are still available in the Triangle for the summer Olympic Festival, according to North Carolina Amateur Sports staff member Leonard Wolfenstein. "Volunteers are the key to running this festival,'' Wolfenstein said. A few positions remain in the residence halls on the college campuses where the athletes will be staying. These jobs allow the most contact with the athletes and therefore have been popular among students, said Wolfenstein. Other positions with the trans portation crew are available within the Chapel Hill area. A few drivers are still needed to transport athletes and VIPs, according to Wolfenstein. The area in which the most help is needed is with the USOF bus system, he said. Students are needed to work as "Loader Dis patchers," staying at the bus sites to explain bus schedules to guests and athletes. Volunteers are also needed to work at the Festival's "nerve center," in the Research Triangle, where information is given out about the area, including sche dules of athletic events, informa tion about local restaurants, and updated scores of events taking place in other cities. Volunteers with computer skills will be needed to man the information terminals. Those interested in volunteering for positions should call the Volunteer Office at 1-800-223-USOF for more information. There will be a meeting at the Smith Center on June 24 from 6 to 10 p.m. Although the meeting is for those who have already signed up to work, it will be possible for others to sign up at that time, Wolfenstein said. Fair warning to those thinking about volunteering: the good positions go first. Avoid the lottery blues. Apply now! All apartments on the bus line to UINJC Fantastic Social Program.
